Pack 369 First Campout For The School Year
Each year Pack 369 introduces our new families to camping, by holding our first campout of the school year on the fields at St. Jeanne's. By doing a campout at a familiar location families especially the boys, feel comfortable in their surroundings plus it's really cool to camp at school. Who gets to do that? The campout is intended to be relaxed environment where the boys get to have fun and earn awards.
Families began tent set up at 11:00am on Saturday morning October 1st, with opening flag at 1:00pm. The boys and their families had a picnic lunch and activities began, which included swimming, learning to play chess, push carts and other events.
The campout ended at 11:00am on Sunday morning, October 2nd, with a simple religious ceremony at the pond. The boys earned the following belt loops and/or belt loops and pins: Swimming, Wilderness and Chess to name a few.

To: California Inland Empire Council
As September came to a close, the countdown began in the double-digit thousands, then single-digit thousands. Soon it was in the hundreds. And then ... we watched the September 30 traditional membership total cross the threshold to an increase.
An encouraging and inspiring start to our annual fall recruitment of new members!
It’s not that we haven't seen fall membership growth before ... just not under these circumstances.
Nearly four years ago, we began a journey to reshape how the National Council serves and supports local councils. And, our focus has been on how this grand alliance of local and national volunteers and staff can together deliver the highest quality program experience to the greatest number of young people through every council in America.
We’ve had September membership growth before, but I don’t know that the foundation of that growth has ever been quite so solid. Some evidence of that: The September growth is primarily the result of membership retention—a direct outcome of quality program.
As we look toward year-end membership, I’m cautiously—but enthusiastically—optimistic.
I know there is much yet in motion with recruitment and new-unit organization efforts. My sincere thanks and admiration to you and the volunteer and staff leadership team of your council for the hard work that brought us to this point. Thanks also for the commitment, determination, and skill that will move us through these next few months.
So, what are your thoughts?
When you have a moment, I’d be interested in your gut feeling about where the membership picture of your council will likely wrap up this year and the key drivers of whatever that anticipated outcome might be.
In appreciation of your leadership,
Robert J. Mazucca, Chief Scout Executive
