Archery Shoot Off

The Cub Archery Shoot-off for 2010 was held on Saturday, November 6, and it was fantastic! The weather was cool, and although we did have a slight wind to deal with, the boys did great. We handed out a whopping 7 Bullseye patches!! The trophies turned out really nice, and the boys were all very excited to compete for them. We wish we had a trophy to give to each of the participants, they all did so well! Here are the names of the top 3 boys in all of C.I.E.C. for Cubs and Webelos:

National Leadership Team Update - Giving Thanks

As the holiday season quickly approaches, our anniversary provides activities for Scouts to bring home valuable lessons about service and gratitude. Last year, we launched a campaign encouraging Scouts to send letters and care packages to veterans and those currently serving overseas. The closing months of our celebration provide a terrific opportunity to bring the joy of a handwritten letter to people who may be in need of some cheer, while teaching Scouts about the men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom.

We’ve created an online toolkit for individuals and units–-easy to share by simply forwarding this message. Use of these materials ensures a fun, safe, and meaningful activity for your youth:

We recommend that Scouts reach out to people they know, or “friends of friends.” For example, if a Scout’s grandparent belongs to a veterans’ organization such as the American Legion, the Scout’s unit can adopt members of that Legion post. However, we also recognize that not every Scout has a personal connection to someone who is serving or who has served. In those cases, there are several third-party organizations that can help. Scout groups have reported working with the American Red Cross’ Holiday Mail for Heroes program, Soldiers’ Angels, Adopt A Hero, Adopt a U.S. Soldier, and Operation Homefront. The USO also offers Operation Mail Call and Operation Care Package.

Of course, you don’t have to limit your efforts to the upcoming holiday season. You can remember those who serve during patriotic holidays like Independence Day, military holidays like Veterans Day (this Thursday, November 11), or any time of year. Please provide Scouts with the tools they’ll need to participate in this important effort. The letters will be as valuable to the Scouts as they will be to the lucky people who receive them.

Together, launching our second century of service!

Bob Mersereau, National Director
100th Anniversary Celebration Project

Boy Scout 2010 Rocket Rave

On November 12 - 14 Boy scouts from our council had a chance build and fly rockets at a campout. This years event was held at Giant Rock, Landers CA and hosted by Terry Bryan and his Troop 110. Over a 100 plus scouts and leaders showed up for this weekends event! Boys were able to earn the Space Exploration Merit Badge on Saturday and participate in other fun activities. At 11 AM the Rocket shoot started. Rockets all sizes and shapes were sent into to sky. Boys and families were amazed of the height that some rockets got. Most were able to parachute back to the ground but some were not so lucky coming back in pieces and in the desert somewhere for the boys to find. That evening the adults had a Dutch Oven meal while the boys prepared and ate dinner. Great campfire with a Flag Retirement at the end. Then started the Rocket night launch. Also the Movie that night was IRON MAN 2. The boys and leaders had a AWSOME time and are looking forward to Rocket Shoot 2011. Special Thanks to Terry Bryan and Troop 110 of Absolutely Awesome Arrowhead District!!!   Great Job!!!!

Cahuilla Lodge Fall Fellowship

The Cahuilla Lodge Fall Fellowship was held this past weekend at Boseker Scout Reservation. Over 70 OA members attended a weekend full of super hero action (the theme for the weekend was super heroes), fellowship, and fun.

The morning program featured training and exhibitions where Arrowmen could learn about patch design and trading, knapping obsidian arrowheads, or the qualities that enable an ordinary to become a modern day super hero. The afternoon sports competition featured both "lodge" ball and lacrosse tournaments.

The Saturday evening show was great. The show featured pow wow drumming and dancing, the introduction of the 2011 Cahuilla Lodge officers, and the Vigil Honor callout. The official announcement was made of the founding of a second lodge drum, New Dawn Singers. They gave their first public performance and will be a great addition our lodge's program.

Congratulations to the 2011 Cahuilla Lodge Officers:
Lodge Chief- Ian McCleod; 1st Vice-Chief- John Garcia; 2nd Vice Chief- Mark Maloney; 3rd Vice Chief- Michael Schmidt; Secretary- Justin Pearson; Treasurer- Billy Warren.

Class of 2010 Vigil Honors: Jonathan Cambon, Justin Pearson, John Garcia, Billy Warren, Peter Chapman, Ian Hare, John Querns, Mal Maloney, Larry Krikorian, Nick Dutchover, Steve Cambon, Andrew Blessum.

NESA Introduces Outstanding Eagle Scout Award

The National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA) has been created to honor Eagle Scouts who have demonstrated outstanding achievement at the local, state, or regional level. Unlike the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award—which is a national award—the NOESA recognizes Eagle Scouts whose efforts have made a positive impact closer to home. For more information about the award’s requirements and procedures, follow the link above or contact the NESA office at nesa@scouting.org.

Veteran's Day Memorial

On 11-11-10, at 11am, High Desert Troop 256 chartered to the Green Tree Ward, Hesperia LDS Stake, participated in the Hesperia Veterans Day memorial, as well as led a retirement ceremony of the Moving Vietnam Wall's visit to Hesperia.  Cubs, Lone Scouts and Boy Scouts from the High Desert all participated from handing out programs, water, and escorting veterans to their seats, to providing a flag folding ceremony in honor of the 58,195 names behind them on the Moving Wall.

A special thanks to all servicemen and women and our fallen heroes who have defended our freedom.

Swanson: Beaumon Receiver Putting on a Show

Beaumont - Odds are, Shane Waldron probably would answer your "What's up, man?" with a shrug.

A simple, deceptive shrug that won't begin to tell his story, won't give away any clues about what he's really up to this week. Read More .....
