Welcome to our November 18th, 2013 Monday Memo Riverside Mayors Night Out On Wednesday November 13,2013 the Webelos I of Pack 116 went to the Riverside Mayors night out. This was to complete the requirements for the citizenship pin. When they arrived the Mayors aid asked if our boys would lead the event with opening flag and the pledge. Our boys led by Cobra Dragon Patrol leader Jennifer Ohlheiser did a great job. They brought up the flags, placed them and then led everyone there in pledge of allegiance. After the meeting was over they were able to take a picture with Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey. In attendance were DJ Callow, Atticus Leveck, Loagn Ohlheiser, Jacob Scott,Justin Singh, and Corey Smothers, The leaders were Jennifer Ohlheiser Cobra Dragon Patrol leader and Anastasia Leveck Committee Chair. Pack 116 is out of St Thomas Church in Riverside. Anastasia Leveck, Pack 116 Committee Chair, Mt. She led a cleanup service project in Moreno Valley where a lot of trash and furniture had been dumped. A member of our charter organization, the Moreno Valley Noon Rotary, asked if we could come and clean up the area. The weather was beautiful, cool, clear and sunny, and we filled two pickup trucks with trash, in addition to several pieces of furniture being set aside for Waste Management to come collect. Monique brought water and snacks, and so did Mel Horspool from the Rotary Club. The kids did a great job, and a few hours of hard work paid off, with the area looking much better when we were done. Great job 100!! Cub Archery Shoot We had a really wet day on Saturday! It started out dry and cloudy, but by mid-way through the morning shoot, there was a soft rain soaking everyone and everything. The afternoon shoot was very wet, but all of the boys were very patient and understanding and did a great job working around the weather. Parents brought EZ Ups to keep the spectators dry, and the boys that were waiting to shoot gathered under the covers as well. By the end of the afternoon shoot, the paper targets were melting off the foam backs, but we made it through. Despite the wet conditions and the chill, spirits were very high and fun was had by all! Don and I are really looking forward to the Shoot-off next weekend, and we are hoping for dry, sunny weather. The Cubs will begin at 8:30am, and the Webelos will start at 10:30am. Thank you to all of the Packs that came out to participate this year! Don & Laurie Curtis, Cub Archery Co-Chairs A.M. Rubidoux District | Flag Retirement - Please do not burn nylon ( a petroleum product) US Flags Though the BSA recognizes burning a flag as an official retirement method, some Scouters choose to retire the flag in other ways. Why? Because unlike the cotton and wool flags made in the early 20th century, today’s flags are made out of petroleum-based materials like nylon. Burning nylon is different from burning cotton or wool. www.FlagCenter.com posted this statement about burning nylon flags: “Burning American flags made of nylon (a petroleum product) creates hazardous gases and wastes resources. … According to DuPont’s ‘Material Safety Data Sheet’ burning nylon produces: “Hazardous gases / vapors produced in fire are formaldehydes, ammonia, carbon monoxide, cyclopentanone, oxides of nitrogen, traces of hydrogen cyanide, incompletely burned hydrocarbons.” http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2010/11/19/flag-retirement/ Troop 262 and Pack 59 Honoring our Heroes Boy Scout Troop 262 (Palm Springs) and Cub Scout Pack 59 (Desert Hot Springs) along with Girl Scout Troops 1257 and 466, participated once again in honoring the lives of the brave Men and Women that have made the ultimate sacrifice defending freedom. Every year the Troop and Pack gladly work to place flags honoring those who have lost their lives since September 11, 2001. Each flag at the Healing Field in Patriot's Park in Cathedral City, CA. represents a hero. This year we honored 6,522 brave men and women. Troop 262 and Pack 59 would like to Thank all of our Service Men and Women ~ Past, Present, and Future. | | Monday Memo Day Camp Patch Design Design the winning patch and you can go to Day Camp for free in summer 2014. We give thanks to Your most gracious majesty for the fruits of the field which we have gathered. We beg of You, in Your mercy, to bless our harvest, which we have received from Your generosity. Preserve it, and keep it from all harm. Grant, too, that all those whose desires You have filled with these good things may be happy in Your protection. May they praise Your mercies forever, and make use of the good things that do not last in such a way that they may not lose those goods that are everlasting.
