Welcome to our January 21st, 2013 Monday Memo

In Honor of "Martin Luther King Jr."

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

Tour Plans

The tour and activity plan is a planning tool for best practices to be prepared for safe and fun adventure. Completing the plan may not address all possible challenges, but it can help ensure that appropriate planning has been conducted, that qualified and trained leadership is in place, and that the right equipment is available for the adventure.

In addition, the plan helps to organize safe and appropriate transportation to and from an event, and defines driver qualifications and minimum limits of insurance coverage for drivers and vehicles used to transport participants.

Please complete and submit this plan at least 21 days in advance to ensure enough time to review the plan and assist as necessary.

Completing your Tour Plan online is the easiest and fastest way to submit it. Log in to www.myscouting.org and select the tour and activity plan under your “Unit Tool.”

To learn more you can watch this interactive video. Watch video now. or Contact the Council Service Center.

Take Advantage of IRA Distribution to Help Scouting Through January 31st

The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA section 208) permits individuals who have received an IRA distribution in December of 2012 to make a cash gift prior to February 1, 2013 and still have a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). Because there have been many questions raised by individuals with specific circumstances, it would be useful to examine the opportunities and tax advantages with your financial advisor prior to month end.

For questions and further information on this unique way to help Scouting and yourself during this short window, please contact Joe Daniszewski, 909-793-2463 x120
