Monday Memo

Joseph Daniszewski
Scout Executive

Good day and welcome to our December 14th Monday Memo

Pack 555 in Holiday Parade

Cub Scout Pack 555 from Fontana proudly represented the BSA in the city of Fontana's annual Holiday Parade Saturday Dec 12th.  Nineteen boys and their families marched down Sierra Avenue Saturday morning in the pouring rain promoting the BSA and the 100th Anniversary.  How best to epitomize Scouting than an event where you encourage little boys to go play in the rain! Membership

Unit Rechartering
The unit charter renewal process is essential to the continued growth of the Boy Scouts of America.  Internet Rechartering is an Internet-based application that is indirectly connected to the council's ScoutNET membership data and provides the ability for unit leaders to complete the paperwork portion of rechartering from their home (office, etc) over the Internet.  Units will love this method; it?s easy, convenient, and accurate because you enter the information yourself!

How it Works
Each unit will receive its charter renewal packet as usual, the packet will include information for internet rechartering, including an access code especially for the unit.  The unit selects an adult to complete the online process.  This renewal processor uses the access code to log onto the internet rechartering website, selecting to start the process with current ScoutNET data or data from unit-management software.  At any time, the renewal processor can suspend the electronic rechartering process and return later to the last completed screen.

The system lets you enter new members, renew current members, and update information for any registrant.  When completed, the new unit roster is submitted to ScoutNET and a Unit Charter Renewal Report Package is printed.  This package includes the unit charter application.  Acquire the signatures for the application and send it, the rest of the package, any new youth and adult applications, and all fees to the council.

All BSA policies are enforced throughout the system, so what you enter is sure to meet all requirements.  If you have any questions or comments, contact your district executive or our Registrar Chrissy Eads, at 909-793-2463, ext. 114 who will be glad to help out.

2010 Centennial Quality Units
Can you believe 2009 is almost over?  As you begin to think about your New Year resolutions and goals, do not forget about your unit?s goals for 2010.  Packs, troops, teams and crews have the ability to earn a Centennial Quality Unit ribbon for their flag showing the dedication of leaders in setting and achieving goals!  A Quality Unit knows the value in setting goals early, working hard and reaping the success.  Complete the 2010 Centennial Quality Unit Form and return it with your recharter packet.

Friends of Scouting

Consider a Gift to Scouting at Year End
Growing up has never been easy.  Each generation faces its own concerns and pressures.  For the past 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has provided young people with experiences that prepare them to meet challenges and conquer them.  Character, self-reliance, responsibility and leadership ? Scouting provides activities that are in sync with the interests of today?s youth, but instill these timeless values. Annually, for more than
17,387Inland Empire participants with diverse backgrounds, Scouting is the guiding light that leads to a responsible and rewarding adulthood.  Friends of Scouting is the annual fundraising campaign to raise the operating funds necessary to provide a quality Scouting program in the California Inland Empire Council, BSA.  Every year there is a need for financial support to existing programs, developing programs and to support our  Council camps.

This is the essence of the Friends of Scouting campaign, raising money to help the California Inland Empire Council defray the actual cost of delivering and running the Scouting program.  Special events and fundraisers pay only a portion of the cost.  Give Scouts and volunteer Scouters your support by helping the Scouting program with your pledge.

Only through your support can we keep the Scouting light burning brightly into the future.  Why should you support Scouting?  Because your gift to the 2009 Friends of Scouting campaign really does keep the light burning.  Help us guide the youth of this generation as they grow to become the leaders of the next.

If you have any questions, please contact me, Joe Daniszewski at 909 -793-2463 x 120. Thank you in advance for your gracious and generous support.

Veteran Awards

The veteran award is an adult recognition. However, tenure earned as a youth may be included in the total number of years registered.  After 5 years of registered service in the Boy Scouts of America, an adult may, upon application, receive the designation of ?Veteran,? provided the person agrees to live up to the Scouting obligations: to keep local Scouting authorities in the community in which residing informed as to availability for service; and further, to be active in the promotion of the cause of Scouting as circumstances and conditions permit. Service in Scouting organizations other than the Boy Scouts of America does not count toward veteran recognition. An individual must currently be registered member of the Boy Scouts of America in order to receive an award.
