12th Annual New Year’s Eve Lights for Little Lives Candle-Lighting and Walk

Our Boy Scout Troop 90 & Venture Crew 90 were honored to support the Unforgettables Foundation, Riverside Uptown Kiwanis and the Ronald McDonald House by participating in the 12th Annual New Year’s Eve Lights for little lives candle-lighting and walk on December 31, 2011. The Lights for Little Lives Walk was no more than a few blocks, but held a profound meaning while providing financial support to families at their most urgent time of need.

The walk down Anderson Street from the Ronald McDonald House, was organized by the Redlands-based Unforgettables Foundation, whose mission is to assist the families of children who have died. Boy Scout Troop & Venture Crew 90 volunteered by carrying several large banners as the parade of volunteers and supporters made the memorable walk past the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital to the Campus Hill Church.

2011 Scouting for Food Drive

A Cub Scout promises to "give goodwill" and a Boy Scout promises "to help other people at all times." There's no better way to show our Scouting spirit than by participating in the annual Scouting for Food drive! Scouting for Food is the leading service program for Boy Scouts of America, which helps our local food banks in time of need.

The California Inland Empire Council recently conducted our annual Scouting for Food drive across San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Each district collected thousands of pounds of food for their local communities by organizing Scouting units to distribute bags and door hangers throughout their neighborhoods and collect and distribute food.

The council kick off began in Riverside at the Second Harvest Food Bank, with a visit from the Mayor of Riverside, Mr. Ron Loveridge, thanking local Scouts for their efforts and leadership.

All in all it was a successful campaign “doing a good turn” for our community partners and many families in need. We would like to thank each of our district coordinators, our Scouts and Scout leaders for their hard work and support.

District Totals:

5 Nations- 1,000 lbs                       Old Baldy – 8,500 lbs

2012 Adams Eagle Scout Project Award Nominations Due January 20th

The nomination for the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award is now available on the NESA website (in the far-right column).

This year marks the third year of the award. In 2010, Eagle Scouts from 35 councils participated. The national winner that first year was from the Baltimore Area Council. In 2011, 88 councils participated, and the national winner was chosen from the Central Florida Council. (View a three-minute video of the 2011 winning Eagle Scout project online at NESA.org.)

After all entries are received, the council-level NESA committee selects their winner. From these, regional committees select their winners and, from those four, the national winner is picked.
