The BSA Announces Theme and Logo of the 2017 Jamboree

MOUNT HOPE, West Virginia (November 6, 2014) – Today, the Boy Scouts of America announced the official theme and logo for the 2017 National Scout Jamboree, a celebration of Scouting held every four years for Scouts, Venturers, volunteers, and staff from across the nation.

The 2017 theme, “Live Scouting’s Adventure,” speaks both to Scouting’s century-old tradition of creating adventures that develop young people into the leaders of tomorrow and to the developing adventures of the next century of Scouting.

The “Live Scouting’s Adventure” theme and logo symbolize the adventurous spirit and exciting high-adventure and outdoor opportunities available to youth and adult members in the Scouting program. Read More.....

C.I.E.C. 2015 Volunteer Recognition Dinner Auction

It's that time of year again. Time to recognize our adult volunteers at the Council volunteer recognition dinner. This year we are having a silent auction. Proceeds from the silent auction will go to benefit the California Inland Empire Council campership fund. I've been given the opportunity to run this auction again this year. With your help I foresee this being a successful endeavor. Here's what we will need donated this year  auction.

Each district has been asked to donate at least 5 items with a value of over $25 from your area. These items may include spa packages, Sportsmans shop, golf packages Scout memorabilia, jewelry, home sales items, ie. Avon, Mary Kay etc. collectible patches, wine baskets and any other item what you feel would be worthwhile to donate.

CIEC covers a wide area. Many cities have businesses willing to donate to the scouts. All you have to do is ask. If a letter of donation is needed we can get one for you.

All items donated will need to be taken to the council offices. With a note placed on them attention Bubbles. I will be able to pick them up from the council offices and assemble them if you have single items you've donated they will be added to larger baskets it's that simple.

If you have any questions or ideas. Feel free to call me. Christa ' Bubbles ' Jenson. Email divine_durango_diva@msn.com Cell 951-833-2409

Thru generous donations in the past we have raised money to send many scouts to camp. This dinner is a chance for our Volunteers to be recognized for a job well done.

Scout Workshops

Scouts Day: December 6, 2014

Thank you for your interest in attending Scouts Day at AMOCA!

Your scouts can earn a badge at AMOCA’s Scouts Day.  Docents will take your group on a tour of the museum’s current exhibitions and ceramic studio.  The will learn how clay is made, stored and recycled.  They will also learn how wedging improves the clay, how artwork is stored during the creative process and how the artwork is fired.

Scouts will discover different firing methods available at AMOCA. Scouts will see the insides of the kilns, learn how kilns work, and see one in action! Scouts can also learn what glazes are made from and discuss major glazing techniques such as dipping, pouring, spraying, painting and sponging.

Scouts will enjoy getting dirty in the AMOCA Ceramics Studio. We offer the opportunity to work in clay. Your scout will be able to create their very own hand-built pot or sculpture based on their troop level.

At the end of the workshop, the scouts will have their worksheets completed and be able to receive their merit badge. If your troop or organization has specific merit badge requirements beyond those covered here, our staff will work with you to create a workshop that meet the additional requirements. More Info.....

Boy Scout Stamp Collecting Merit Badge Workshop

The American Philatelic Society, the largest stamp collecting organization in the world, will be holding its Winter Show – AmeriStamp Expo - at the Riverside Convention Center, Riverside, California, from February 13-15, 2015. Please visit our website at http://stamps.org/AmeriStamp-Expo-ASE

I am a Merit Badge counselor with the Juniata Valley Council, located in Reedsville, PA. On Saturday, February 14, I will be offering a Stamp Collecting Merit Badge workshop at AmeriStamp Expo.

What is the best way to get this information to the Scouts in your District? May I send you copies of the attached registration form and flyer to be distributed within your District? In the past, we have had very few boys attend the SCMB workshop at our Riverside shows. However, I am hoping to improve on those numbers in 2015.

Scouts may reserve a spot in the workshop by completing the function ticket form located on the APS website: http://stamps.org/ASE-Function-Tickets

Turkey Shoot 2014

This past weekend the 19th Annual Varsity Turkey Shoot took place in the upper area of Camp Emerson. This year the Varsity Teams took part in a GPS course that took them throughout the upper camp. They had several waypoints to locate and they needed to take a picture of the team at the waypoint, find the cache, take out colored bead and check elevation of cache. The teams went out and spent the morning finding the caches. When they got back they were excited about the event and were looking forward to next year’s Turkey Shoot. In the afternoon the Varsity Scouts competed in Black powder shooting, Archery, and Rock Throw. Prizes earned during the competition included patch knives made with deer antlers, medicine bags, and either a whistle or a mini flash light; everyone received a cool Turkey Shoot patch.

See everyone next year at the Varsity Scout Turkey Shoot November 6/7, 2015.  By Gavin Christen

Old Baldy District BALOO

"On Saturday, October 18th, Old Baldy District's BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) training was led by members of Venture Crew 641 with two special guest instructors from Troop 652 out of Rancho Cucamonga. Five adult participants learned all about camping in the outdoors the Cub Scout Way with Crew members providing the teaching, along with adult advisers guidance. The participants shared that they really enjoyed the cooking, from foil packs to dutch oven desserts, especially since they got to help in the preparation and eating the food! For many of the Crew members, this was their first experience in public speaking outside of school presentations. Each of them did a great job in preparing for their part and presenting it. These are certainly future Woodbadgers in the making!"

Battle of Normandy Medal Presented

On November 3, 2014 Troop 377 presented a 70th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy medal to Mr. Ed Tunison. Mr. Tunison was a Staff Sargent Radioman with the 9th Air Force, 434th Troop Carrier Group, 74th squadron. He flew in a C-47 during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.

Mr. Tunison spoke about his time in the Army Air Corps as well as the training he received while a Boy Scout in Detroit. During his scout days he learned to pitch a tent, march, and cook (although he says his wife doubts that claim). This training put him a “head-up” when he went to boot camp. In September of this year, he went to Europe and was able to fly and fly in the exact plane that he spent 37 months flying in during the war.

In addition to the medal and a certificate, the troop presented him with one of our famous “bucket hats”, and Robin Lund, Scoutmaster of Troop 131, gave him a grommet from a recently retired American flag.

Mr. Tunison is a true living hero and Troop 377 was blessed to have heard part of his story and give him a little thanks. Courtesy

CIEC/BSA Salutes a World War II Normandy Veteran

Mr. Glen Benton asked me to relay his sincere thanks for this recognition. I presented the award and pinned it on his chest and he was truly thrilled. I assisted in removing it when we sat to eat, then right after we were done he re-pinned it himself and wore it for the rest of the day.

We talked for hours about everything from Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, work, life, animals, etc. You name it we discussed it. I just want give my thanks as well, Mr. Benton is a great guy and you made his day. (Mine too.)

Positive Quote & Prayer
-------------------------------------

"My father had many, many veterans over to the house, and the older I got the more I appreciated their sacrifice."

    ~  Steven Spielberg

God of all nations, you are our Strength and Shield. We give you thanks today for the devotion and courage of all those who have offered military service for this country:

For those who have fought for freedom;
For those who have laid down their lives for others;
For those who have borne suffering of mind or of body;
For those who have brought their best gifts to times of need.

God, in your mercy and love, we thank you for their lives.

On our behalf, oh God, many have entered into danger, endured separation from those they love, labored long hours and born hardship in war and in peacetime.

God, in your mercy and love, we thank you for their lives.

We ask today that you would lift up by your Spirit those who are now at war; encourage and heal those in hospitals or mending their wounds at home; guard those in any need or trouble; hold safely in your hands all military families and bring the returning troops to joyful reunion and tranquil life at home.

Give to us, your people, grateful hearts and a united will to honor these men and women and hold them always in our love and our prayers until your world is perfected in peace and all wars cease.

Amen
