NYLT is advanced leadership training for youth leaders in troops, crews, and teams. It is an exciting action packed program designed to provide youth members with skills they can utilize not only in your Scout units, but also in school and their future careers. Using the patrol method, NYLT focuses on teaching team leadership. It builds upon the experiences taught in the Introduction to Leadership Skills (ILS) courses allowing youth to hone in on their ability to lead their peers. NYLT integrates the best of modern leadership theory with the traditional strengths of the Scouting experience. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audio-visual support, NYLT participants will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skills and confidence to lead well. Through a wide range of activities, games, and adventures, participants will work and play together as they put into action the best Scouting has to offer. California Inland Empire Council’s NYLT courses will be offered June 9- 14 and June 16-21. The cost to attend the course is $275 (if paid before May 9) or $300 (if paid after May 9). These two stores are among 155 across the country to win the award. The California Inland Empire Scout Shop located in the Jack Dembo Center for Scouting earned the silver level and the Old Baldy Scout Shop in Montclair earned the bronze. There are a number of requirements to attain each level. Each store needed to do a good job in satisfying our volunteers and other customers. They needed to be active in attending meetings and events. The Scout Shops both did a very good job and you all should be very proud of your stores. Please take a few minutes and stop by either or both stores and congratulate them on this achievement. In presenting the plaques to the Managers they both express their thanks to you all as customers and say that they are going to strive to improve their quality customer service over last year. Here are the Most- and Least-Popular Merit Badges of 2013 and of all Time | The reign of First Aid merit badge continues. More Boy Scouts earned this Eagle-required merit badge in 2013 than any other. And it wasn’t event close. Not only was it the most-earned merit badge in 2013, it also topped the list in 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 … you get the idea. In all, 6.9 million Scouts have earned First Aid merit badge since its debut in 1911. Yep, you guessed it; that’s more than any other in history. Which other merit badges made the Top 10 last year? What was 2013′s most-earned merit badge that isn’t on the Eagle-required list? And which merit badges were in the Bottom 10 (or “the rarest,” as I like to call them)? Let’s find out Read More...... | ECONOMY: More Solid Job Growth Anticipated BY JACK KATZANEK STAFF WRITER Published: April 17, 2014; 04:53 PM John Husing, Inland Southern California’s leading homegrown economist, jokes that he and his wife had been persona non grata at parties for about five years. They didn’t make guest lists, he said, because a person who talked about the Inland region’s economy was not likely to be much fun. “I am not going to be depressing today,” Husing said as he delivered his annual economic forecast on Thursday, April 17. “The arrow is moving from optimistic towards excitement.” Husing’s forecast was featured at the Inland Empire Economic Partnership’s 2014 State of the Region presentation in Ontario. It was the first time in more than a half-decade that he was able to predict that a solid if not fully comprehensive selection of job opportunities would be available to Riverside and San Bernardino county residents.
