Welcome to our June 30th, 2014 Monday Memo

Sunrise District Day Camp

On June 20th & 21st, in the land of Sunrise in the kingdom of C.I.E.C. a Cub Scout Day Camp was held at the Palm Springs LDS Bldg. We had 84 Squires registered to become Knights of the Roundtable.  During the course of their apprenticeship, they learned the many trades a Knight must possess. Our brave Squires faced the trails of both the Archer’s Field and Musket Range as well as creating their own Coat of Arms and Catapult among other activities. Near the conclusion of their trails all squires learned the art of Jousting.

We would truly like to thank everyone for attending the 2014 Knights of the Roundtable Cub Scout Day Camp. To all the Adult Leaders that assisted as Staff a very big THANK YOU, because if it wasn’t for you Day Camp would not be possible. To all the Scouts, we look forward to seeing you at the 2015 Day Camp.

Lady Debbie Hadden & Lady Cindy Stiede

Leave No Trace Training

Congratulations to the 12 scouts and scouters who completed their Leave No Trace Trainer June 6-8, 2014 at the Jurupa Discovery Center. We had participants from 3 different councils.  Special thanks to Master Educators Terese R., John G., and Seth D. for help with this training. An extra special thanks to Paula B. (Western Region OE representative) for her help and continued support. Way to go guys.

Not sure when you are going to get YOUR LNT training? Trainer courses offered every week at Emerson Scout camp and several times during the year throughout the council. Visit your local roundtable for more information

Troop 720 "Lives the Adventure" at Lake Skinner, Temecula

Summer is here and what better way to begin than with fishing, kayaking, fresh air and fun! Troop 720 ventured down to Temecula and stayed at the famed Lake Skinner Campground, known for the Temecula Hot Air Balloon Festival. The campgrounds were simple but clean, the breeze coming off the lake kept the temperatures down and the activity level high. The lake is filled with all types of fish and the local ranger, Aaron, was more than helpful to tell us the premium fishing spots for Large Mouth Bass, Striper and Catfish.  Those scouts that weren't fishing tried their hand at single kayaking from the boat launch and had a "splashing" good time.

There is also a VERY large water park to cool off in the afternoon heat just about a 5 minute walk from the campsites. Just be ready for a bright and early morning as the sun rises fast and by 5:30am your scouts are ready to begin a new day!

Scoutmaster - Allen Greenstein - Troop 720

Building The Future

Invite your friend to join Scouting this summer!

With soccer, football and fall baseball winding down, this is a great time to invite more youth and families to join Scouting. The California Inland Empire Council is kicking off our new Peer to Peer recruitment campaign!

Our kids celebrate when they receive a birthday party invitation from a friend. The invitation means friendship and a fun that includes activities, learning and of course…treats. The “bring a friend” recruitment strategy is based on this formula for success!

Your tools for success include birthday party style invitations encouraging kids to come to your pack recruitment event. The Scouts in your pack that successfully recruit a friend earn a great new patch recruiter patch that includes a rocker for each additional boy recruited (up to 5 making them a master builder).

Wait…there’s more.  For each friend that joins your pack, the recruiting Scout will be entered into a drawing for and i-Pod touch or Go Prod. The drawing will be held on June 30th and October 31st.

How do you get plugged in?  Use the attached invitation to print your own birthday party style invitations and ask your Scouts to share them with friends. Keep track of which new boys recruited come from these invitations and submit the attached form to be entered into drawing and for recruiter patch.

The drawing will take place live on June 30th at 5pm. Also, watch the Monday memo for further details.

Thanks for your leadership brining more families into the Scouting program!

Scout Shop Goes Mobile

We at the Scout Shop would like to announce that we can bring the store to your units for a recruiting night. Please let your units know ASAP so they can plan ahead and schedule their night before it gets booked by another unit.

We are taking reservations for August thru October at this time. We ask that they please schedule with the store 3 weeks in advance of their recruiting night and we will bring all the program literature and uniform items needed to gear up your new recruits on the night you recruit them!  We can take Cash, Check, or Credit Card orders.

Positive Quote & Prayer
--------------------------------------

"The winds that blow through the wide sky in these mounts, the winds that sweep from Canada to Mexico, from the Pacific to the Atlantic - have always blown on free men."

    ~  Franklin D. Roosevelt

Eternal God, stir Thou our minds and stimulate our hearts with a high sense of patriotism as we approach the Fourth of July. May all that this day symbolizes renew our faith in freedom, our devotion to democracy, and redouble our efforts to keep a government of the people, by the people, and for the people truly alive in our world.

Grant that we may highly resolve on this great day to dedicate ourselves anew to the task of ushering in an era when good will shall live in the hearts of a free people, justice shall be the light to guide their feet, and peace shall be the goal of humankind: to the glory of Thy holy name and the good of our Nation and of all mankind.

Amen
