Cub Scouts Visit March Field Air Museum

Pack 114, (from north San Bernardino) recently took a tour of the March Field Air Museum to learn about the history of flight. They saw both military and civilian aircraft. The tour was very informative and the Cubs and their families had a great time. Scout or Cub Leaders wishing to set up a guided tour for their troop or pack should call 951-902-5949 or email annie@marchfield.org

Calling all CIEC Scouts and Scouters - Help Paint the Jack Dembo Scout Center in Redlands on July 19 and 20

Our next project is upon us!  We will prep the building on Saturday the 19th and paint on Sunday the 20th. Plan to get dirty since we have to trim plants away from the building, wash the building (if you have a real pressure washer please bring). Painting will be on the 20th so we do not over-spray any cars, so park away from building on Sunday. Obviously the more people we have working the sooner we can go home. See you soon.

Please bring any bush whacking tools, trimmers, rakes, and square nose shovels that you might have on the 19th.  If someone has a 50 foot water hose of 3/4" ID please bring it as I do not believe that I have enough length to reach all the way around the building (no hose bibbs at the rear of the building). NOTE: The hose must be a heavy duty 3/4" ID hose as power washers can collapse a regular garden hose from suction. I will have a 28 ft. extension ladder, but we could always use one more of at least 24 ft. if you have it. We will also need lots of trash bags.  We'll start at 8:00 am both days!

Thank You! Jim Prior, Vice President of Properties and Kurt Wochholz, Project Manager

Unit Number Patches

Hey leaders, have you ever seen those cool looking unit numbers with all the digits in one patch?  They’re so much easier to get straight when you sew them on and they cost almost the same. The only difference is you must order and pre-pay in units of 12. Order ASAP and we will get them back from the factory in 6-8 weeks. All your new recruits will be geared up in style this fall when you order your unit numbers now from BSA Supply. You can order your unit patches through your local Scout Shop. See the link for a copy of the order form. Fill it out then fax your order to 909-307-3950 or e-mail it to redlandsscoutshop@scouting.org

Thank you, Lisa Bates | Store Manager, California Inland Empire Scout Shop # 6117

News from our Council Advancement Chair

After a little research on this organization it is clear that they believe that their goal is to assist those in need to obtain hearing aids. The means and methods are unclear from the documentation read on-line exactly how this is achieved. However the partnering with other service agency like the Lions, Rotary, and Key Club are opportunities to channel resources and focus to make a greater impact together than along to make that difference in our world wide community. It is another suggestion that can be added for the overall reviewed by the Candidate as he proceeds with the selection and choosing of a worthwhile project that he would like to take on.

While this idea to create a hearing aid drive may not be a common thing, the concept of a drive to gather the needed resources to move on to the next step is a common practice that the project reviewers will need to understand to have the abilities to see the value of what the project could be. It will be necessary for the Candidate to develop a plan with the required steps to prove out the project idea clearly illustrating the purpose of the project, planning the necessary phases and activities necessary to implement a drive for hearing aids, and communicate the leadership that will be required to turn a service project idea into an Eagle Service project.

Referring to the work book notes:

Attention: Unit, District, and Council Reviewers

Eagle Scout projects must be evaluated primarily on impact—the extent of benefit to the religious institution, school, or community, and on the leadership provided by the candidate. There must also be evidence of planning and development. This is not only part of the requirement but relates to practicing the Scout motto, Be Prepared. However, in determining if a project meets Eagle Scout requirement 5, reviewers must not require more planning and development than necessary to execute the project. These elements must not overshadow the project itself, as long as the effort was well led and resulted in otherwise worthy results acceptable to the beneficiary.

This I think will be the challenge to more this idea forward for the Candidate.

86,400 Shared by Past Council President Michael Goldware

(This was found in the billfold of Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant of The University of Alabama after he died in 1982.)

The Magic Bank Account

Imagine that you had won the following *PRIZE* in a contest: Each morning your bank would deposit $86,400 in your private account for your use. However, this prize has rules:

The set of rules:

1. Everything that you didn't spend during each day would be taken away from you.
2. You may not simply transfer money into some other account.
3. You may only spend it.
4. Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $86,400 for that day.
5.  The bank can end the game without warning; at any time it can say,“Game Over!".  It can close the account and you will not receive a new one.
What would you personally do?

You  would buy anything and everything you wanted right? Not only for yourself, but for all the people you love and care for. Even for people  you don't know, because you couldn't possibly spend it all on yourself,  right? You would try to spend every penny, and use it all, because you knew it would be replenished in the morning, right?

ACTUALLY, This GAME is REAL ...
Shocked ? YES!
Each of us is already a winner of this  *PRIZE*. We just can't seem to see it.

The PRIZE is *TIME*

1. Each morning we awaken to receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of  life.
2. And when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is NOT credited to us.
3. What we haven't used up that day is forever  lost.
4. Yesterday is forever gone.
5. Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time  WITHOUT WARNING...

SO, what will YOU do with your 86,400 seconds?

Those seconds are worth so much more than the same amount in  dollars. Think about it and remember to enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think. So  take care of yourself, be happy, love deeply and enjoy life! Here's wishing you a wonderful and beautiful day. Start “spending”....

Positive Quote & Prayer

"Nothing worthwhile was ever accomplished without the will to start, the enthusiasm to continue and regardless of temporary obstacles, the persistence to complete."

Inner Peace

The love of God quells my thoughts and instills peace in my mind and heart.

I am poised and secure in God's presence, and my heart is serene.

God's presence within me is my center of perfect peace. I am confident and calm, knowing that God is with me always.

God within me is my constant source of peace and strength.

I relax, release any anxious thought, and peacefully rest in the presence of God.
