Welcome to our July 7th, 2014 Monday Memo

Calling all CIEC Scouts and Scouters - Help Paint the Jack Dembo Scout Center in Redlands on July 19 and 20

Our next project is upon us!  We will prep the building on Saturday the 19th and paint on Sunday the 20th. Plan to get dirty since we have to trim plants away from the building, wash the building (if you have a real pressure washer please bring). Painting will be on the 20th so we do not over-spray any cars, so park away from building on Sunday. Obviously the more people we have working the sooner we can go home. See you soon.

Please bring any bush whacking tools, trimmers, rakes, and square nose shovels that you might have on the 19th.  If someone has a 50 foot water hose of 3/4" ID please bring it as I do not believe that I have enough length to reach all the way around the building (no hose bibbs at the rear of the building). NOTE: The hose must be a heavy duty 3/4" ID hose as power washers can collapse a regular garden hose from suction. I will have a 28 ft. extension ladder, but we could always use one more of at least 24 ft. if you have it. We will also need lots of trash bags.  We'll start at 8:00 am both days!

Thank You! Jim Prior, Vice President of Properties and Kurt Wochholz, Project Manager

Troop 100 in Parade

Troop 100 celebrated the 4th of July at the Moreno Valley parade on Friday, carrying the award banners and walking with our entry. We wrapped up the day with Crew 100 handling the opening flag ceremony at Morrison Park. Great job scouts!!

Crew 641 at Beaver High Adventure Base in Utah

5 Crew members and 3 Advisors from Crew 641 attended Beaver High Adventure Base in Orem, Utah last week. The Crew had a fun week of White Water Rafting on the Sevier River, Mountain Bike riding, Zip lining, Rock Climbing and Repelling, Shooting sports, and Frontier sports, including chopping down a tree to help make a stockade around the forge and a challenging COPE course.

On the last day of camp, the Crew got to challenge most of the camp staff at Battle Creek, a rendition of Capture the Flag. The camp food was delicious and the views are breathtaking. The staff are some of the friendliest, helpful people you will ever meet! If you are looking for a high adventure camp for your Venture or Varsity Crew, check out Beaver High Adventure Base in Utah. They still have openings for this summer. http://www.utahscouts.org/high-adventure/beaver-high-adventure-base/21840.

If you are interested in joining Crew 641, please contact Cathy Hayes at 909-549-6121.

New Cub Scout Adventure Program -- Webelos/Arrow of Light transition - Option Added

Based on feedback coming out to the new Cub Scout adventure program announcements at National Annual meeting and subsequent, we will be adding an option on how boys move from Webelos to Arrow of Light in 2015 only.

The new option, listed as Option 1 in the attached, allows boys who earned their Webelos rank prior to June 2015 to continue using the current requirements and their current handbook to complete their Arrow of Light requirements.

Option 2 allows a boy to bridge into the new program, using the new required adventures and also using activity pins earned in the current program but not applied to Webelos rank requirements to satisfy elective requirements in the new program.

The new program requirements for Webelos and Arrow of Light place a significant emphasis on the skills and concepts necessary for a successful transition into Boy Scouts.  Den leaders are encouraged to review the new requirements closely and make the best decision for the boys in their den.

The new transition document will post to www.scouting.org/programupdates with the next server update and Bryan Wendell will blog about the new option on Monday, 7/7.

Archery Good Turn for the Boseker Scout Reservation

It appears that we will NOT need to purchase arrows for summer camp - unless something drastic happens.  The Andrews family (Mom & Dad are USA Archery level 1 Instructors) and their son (All with Troop 2, Riverside) came up Wednesday and will return Sunday, have repaired more than 60 arrows with plans to repair even more this Sunday.  Add in the 70 arrows repaired by Pops Hartjen and those I've repaired and we now have in excess of 200 arrows ready for use.

Kudos to the Andrews family, Pops Hartjen and Pat Rogers, our Camp Emerson/Wiley Shooting Sports Director

Positive Quote & Prayer
--------------------------------------

"A man is generally what he thinks about all day long."

    ~  Emerson

Come to Me,
Separate yourself unto Me,
Know Me,
Trust Me,
I Am here:
My love is here,
My goodness is here,
My righteousness is here,
My grace is here,
My strength is here,
My ways, My works, My wisdom, My wonders are here!
Is there anything too hard for Me?
