Here are the answers to some of those FAQs. Unit leaders are not automatically approved to serve as merit badge counselors. CLICK HERE for MB Applications Question: Must individuals who are serving as a merit badge counselor register as a merit badge counselor with the Boy Scouts of America? Answer: Yes, an Adult Application must be completed for each position in which the individual wants to serve. The application allows only one position per form. For instance, an individual who wants to serve only as a merit badge counselor will need to complete only one application. However, a Scoutmaster or assistant Scoutmaster who wants to serve as a merit badge counselor must complete two applications—one for the Scoutmaster position and one for the counselor position. Question: Once the adult leader application has been submitted, how long does the approval process take? Answer: The process usually takes from four to six weeks. Question: What is the minimum age requirement for merit badge counselors? Answer: An individual must be at least 18 years of age to serve as a merit badge counselor. Question: Once a volunteer is registered and approved as a merit badge counselor, is that registration for life? Answer: Approvals for merit badge counselors and all other adult volunteer positions are valid for one year only and must be renewed annually. MyScouting.Scouting.org. It is not a phase that youth have to go through. It is not "just messing around" and is not something involved youth - bully or target - will grow our of. Continued bullying will lead to poor self-image. poor self-esteem, quitting Scouting, or becoming a bully to other younger youth, thus perpetuating the bully cycle. Forms of bullying include: - Verbal - name calling or teasing.
- Social - spreading rumors, leaving the "target" out of activities, breaking up or manipulating friendships.
- Physical - hitting, pushing, shoving, physical coercion.
- Group - intimidations, ostracizing.
- Criminal - injury, assault, sexual aggression.
- Cyber bullying - usingtechnology (social media, mobile phones, computers, etc.) for any of the above.
Philmont Training Center Ambassador My name is, Richard Slider, I am Assistant District Commissioner with the Grayback District. I just completed a week conference at Philmont Training Center for DC / ADC. This was the most rewarding training I ever had in scouting. There were 32 commissioners from 25 different councils, and I must admit you really understand scouting when you attend a National Training event like Philmont. Our Council Commissioner. Bob Spence, and Kit Wilson, Assistant District Commissioner from the Mt. Rubidoux District also attended this week conference for Commissioners. While at Philmont I was encouraged to be the Philmont Training Center Ambassador for the California Inland Empire Council. The application requires your name, your business phone, your business email address and your jacket size. This information is required in order to complete the application and personal information plus scouting information concerning Philmont. For your information I just completed my second Commissioner conference at Philmont last week. My first commissioner conference for unit commissioners was in June 2013. This year I received my "Master Track Knot". This knot is award for recruiting 3 others to attend Philmont conferences, attend 2 Philmont conferences, and taught a training session. There are some new tools for commissioners to be released this fall that will make all commissioners easier. Yours in Scouting, Richard K. Slider, Assistant District Commissioner, Grayback District Red Skelton and The Pledge of Allegiance When the popular American comedian Red Skelton was a young man, he learned the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag from one of his teachers. The lesson became so meaningful he remembered the explanation of his teacher, Mr. Laswell, throughout his lifetime. In 1969 Red Skelton shared the following in a record he made as part of a promotion by Burger King. I me, an individual, a committee of one. Pledge dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity. Allegiance my love and my devotion. To the flag of the our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody's job! United that means that we have all come together. States individual communities that have united into 48 great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries, of America yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country. And to the republic a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. For which it stands, And government is the people and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people. One nation one nation, meaning "so blessed by God" Indivisible incapable of being divided. With liberty which is freedom -- the right of power to live one's own life without threats, fear or some sort of retaliation. And Justice the principle or quality of dealing fairly with others. For all which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine. Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country and two words have been added to the pledge of Allegiance...UNDER GOD Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer and that would be eliminated from schools too?
