Rountable kick Off

Grayback District Kick off Roundtable was held Thursday, Sept 11, 2014 @ 7pm. We had our traditional BBQ dinner with all the fixings provided by our units.  Our Program Overview consisted of a portable Scout shop, Outdoor Ethics/Leave No Trace, and Scouting for Food, Cub Scout Day camp, and Pinewood Derby displays as well as "Highlights of the District year"  The guest speaker for the night was Cameron Thompson, a Bear Cub Scout, of  Pack 322 in Beaumont. After the scouters viewed his video "Confessions of a Bully", which was featured on the Today show, they listened as Cameron talked first about his experiences as a bully and then as an advocate of Anti-Bullying. They learned he started an Anti Bully club at his school. The first meeting he was hoping to get at least 10 kids to meet, 76 children showed up to join the cause. Currently they have 186 members. Cameron was an inspiration to us all!

A Salute To Freedom

Pack 464's entry float for the Phelan Fun Day Parade held Saturday, September 13. This year's theme was "A Salute To Freedom"

We had 18 Scouts attend the parade and either ride on the float or walk the parade route carrying the Pack banner, along with 7 leaders and several parents. Joining us were several members from Troop 464-Oak Hills.

Pack 464 received the First Place Trophy for best representation of this year's theme. We represented the scouting commitment to community service with our patriotic float with the message that "Cub Scouts learn...FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!

At the back of the float was a representation of the flags placed by scouts on grave markers of fallen military soldiers, honoring them for their sacrifice, and reminding everyone that freedom does come at a great price.

Hopefully, you can add this to the Monday Memo. Just wanted to pass this along to you and let you know that Pack 464 represents the BSA, the CIEC, and the High Desert District with pride.

Lee Bayless, Assistant Cubmaster, Pack 464

Positive Quote & Prayer
--------------------------------------

"Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love."

    ~  Lao Tzu

In Times of Transition

God of Love,
You are with us in every transition and change.
As we enter into this new era with excitement and even some anxiety,
we recall your deep compassion, presence, and abounding love.
We thank you for the gifts, talents and skills with which you have blessed us.
We thank you for the experiences that have brought us to this moment.
We thank you for the work of others that gives breadth and depth to our own work.
Be with us as we move forward, rejoicing with you and supporting one another.
We ask this in your Holy Name. Amen.
