Welcome to our September 22nd, 2014 Monday Memo | | Boy Scouts to Honor Family BY DIANE A. RHODES / CONTRIBUTING WRITER | The Boy Scouts of America Three Peaks District annually chooses a distinguished citizen to honor and for 2014 that recognition is going to the Jones family of Hemet at a ceremony Oct. 1 at the Ramona Bowl. Nick and Charlotte Jones, who have operated Miller-Jones Mortuary since 1975, have volunteered their time to many nonprofit organizations and supported numerous events in the San Jacinto Valley. Their sons, Jaeger and Hamilton, and daughters-in-law, Julie and Kimberly, are following in their footsteps. “I hope Jaeger and I can continue to support the valley the way our mom and dad have through the years as they slow down and enjoy retirement,” Hamilton Jones said. “This is a time when this valley needs all the support it can get from everyone.” Scouting has been an important part of the Jones’ family history. Although that is not a requirement for receiving the annual honor – it certainly is a bonus. Recognizing World War II Veterans | The Normandy regional government has created a medal for any living veteran of the Battle of Normandy (D-Day +100) or who participated in the reconstruction of Normandy after the war. We have been asked to assist in distributing the medals to those Veterans residing in the United States. If you have Veterans in your council whom you would like to recognize, I only need to know their name, and unit they were with (rank at the time would be good but not necessary). I will mail the medal and ribbon to your council for presentation. (picture attached). From working with these heroes nothing means more to them to have youth thank them and be aware of what they did. Having a medal presented by a scout with their thanks means a lot. I hope it will help you to continue to build relationships with organizations that also serve Veterans in your council. | Each medal needs to be accounted for so I need the names before I send out the medals. Thank you for all you do, and I am proud to serve with you making a difference now and in the future. Vincent P. Cozzone, Scout Executive/CEO Transatlantic Council, BSA Share The Adventure of Scouting In keeping with Dr. Gates’ remarks at the National Annual Meeting and Top Hands that the most effective recruiting is peer-to-peer recruiting, we have prepared the following video for your volunteers and parents of Scouters to tell the story of Scouting—and it is an exciting story to tell! We want to reach more kids and families this year, and we need everyone to share that story as we invite youth and families across the nation to join the adventure of Scouting! This week we will send the email below to registered leaders and parents along with a link to our newest commercial asking them to share the video with their friends through email and social media, and to come and join Scouting. We want you to share it, too, in support of your local recruiting efforts. We're excited about the coming year of Scouting. Let's share the adventure of Scouting! We are so glad that you are involved in Scouting. Whether you are a parent, a leader, or a volunteer, you make a tremendous difference in the lives of young people through your commitment to Scouting. We are excited about the new Scouting year and all of the fun that is in store for kids. Wouldn't it be great to have some of your friends or son's best friends involved, or maybe neighbors, or teammates? Let's invite them to join the adventure of Scouting. We've created this video you can forward to them that explains Scouting and the potential it has to build men of great character for our country's future. Like this awesome video on Facebook. or share it with your friends by email or on other social media channels! While you're at it, invite them to visit your next pack, troop, or crew meeting!
