76th Annual Lincoln Pilgrimage News Alert

Our 76th Annual Lincoln Pilgrimage is just a little over two weeks away now on Saturday, Feb 7th.  Please encourage your units to register whether or not they are purchasing patches, which we hope they will do.  Knowing the number in each unit helps with the parade lineup is why we ask you to sign up early. You can always register additional scouts, leaders and adults that morning at registration table.

This year the Lincoln Pilgrimage will have six horseback cavalry civil war re-enactors from the 7th Michigan Cavalry including General Grant. The Sons of the Veterans Reserve Color Guard will also be joining us for the march and for photo opts after the Redlands Bowl Program there at the Lincoln Shrine.

We will also have Joe Daniszewski serving as guest speaker sharing a little of his historical research on President Lincoln as a history major in college. It would be good to have lots of units from around the council participating as we haven't had a council executive speaker for several decades.

If you have any questions, please contact our Chairman Mark Shaffer. His phone number and email address can be found on the Registration Form   Map & Directions.

Bank of America Student Leaders Program

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation’s Student Leaders® Program is accepting applications for the 2015 Student Leaders® program. We would like your help spreading the word.

Since its inception in 2005, the Bank of America Student Leaders Program has recognized more than 2,000 exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities. The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:

  • A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank. This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.
  • The week-long, all-expense paid Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 12-17, 2015. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.

In order to spread the word about the opportunity to your members, partners, and affiliates, please distribute the attached flyer. If you would like to receive any posters, please let me know and I will send them to you.

We appreciate your help spreading the word about the Bank of America Student Leaders Program. Students can apply for the program by going to www.bankofamerica.com/studentleaders. Please note the application deadline of January 31, 2015.

Council Volunteer Recognition Dinner Silent Auction

As you know the Annual Council Volunteer Recognition Dinner is coming up.

This year we will be having a silent auction. I have been aaked to oversee the auction this year. ALL proceeds for the silent auction go to the Campership fund and helps send a scout to camp.

For this auction we will need items with a value of at least $25. Each district is asked to look in their areas to local businesses and places for donations. Each district is asked to get at least 5 items from their district for the auction. CIEC covers a wide area. Many local businesses are willing to donate. All you have to do is ask. A letter of donation with tax ID number can be used. If needed request one.

Personal donations of items are gladly accepted also. We do ask the value of such be at least $25.

Monetary donations will be gladly accepted.

Let's make this year a success.

If you have any questions, suggestions or are willing to help with the silent auction. Please contact me via Email Divine_durango_diva@msn.com or 951-833-2409

Crew 641 Day Trip

Crew 641 took a day trip to Hollywood this weekend. They first ate lunch at the famous Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles. After filling their bellies they "walked" off their lunch first at the Hollywood Museum looking at all kinds of Hollywood memorabilia and then walking along the Hollywood strip with all the stars in the sidewalk. They all had a great time.

Crew 641 is based out of Rancho Cucamonga and has a exciting calendar this year.  All the members are taking turns planning different events from Broomball to hunting and everything in between.

If you would like more information about Crew 641 please contact the Crew Advisor Travis Martois at travismartois@hotmail.com

Pack 97 Bridges 13 Boys

On Friday, January 16th, 2015, Pack 97 was proud to bridge 13 boys to Boy Scout Troops 2 and 90. The Wanakik Chapter of the Cahuilla Lodge of the Order of the Arrow performed the Arrow of Light Ceremony for Pack 97 Scouts at our monthly Pack Meeting along with guest Packs 222, 860, and 406.

The impressive ceremony by the Scouts of the Order of the Arrow was their first of the season and performed for a packed audience of scouts and families. This was followed by an inspiring bridging ceremony performed by John Vineyard, Mt. Rubidoux District member-at-large and Wes Andre, Mt. Rubidoux District Camp Promotion / Outdoors Chair, based on Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book. 8 boys bridged to Troop 90 and 5 boys bridged to Troop 2.

Champ Camp 2015

The Redlands Scout Shop held their annual Pinewood Derby Champ Camp on Saturday, January 17.  A big thank you to Ron Davenport and his dad for helping cut, sand and weigh over 20 cars for the scouts that day.  The scouts also enjoyed racing the cars down the track to see who was the fastest.  Each month the scout shop sponsors an event for either cub scouts or boy scouts.  If you would like more info on these events, please visit the scout shop and sign up to receive our event e-mails.

Positive Quote & Prayer
----------------------------------

"I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."

    ~  Wayne Gretzky

A Scout’s Prayer by Lord Baden-Powell

This prayer is attributed to Lord Baden-Powell himself. B-P clearly believed that faith was an important component of his Scouting program. So while Scouting is not specific to any particular faith, there is a spiritual aspect to it. This prayer, based on the Scout Law, would be appropriate for most groups of Scouts.

A Scout’s Prayer

Our Father, make us Trustworthy, for there are those who trust us.

Make us Loyal, for through loyalty we reach our highest ideals.

Teach us to be Helpful, for through helpfulness do we forget our selfness.

Make us Friendly, for there are so many who need a friend.

Train us in Courtesy, for courtesy is the carpet on life’s floor.

Make us kind for kindness is the oil in the cogs of life’s machinery.

Insist upon our Obedience, for victory comes only to him who obeys.

Make us Cheerful, for cheerfulness is the green grass among the rocks in the path of life.

Train us in Thrift, for thrifty habits brighten our future.

Make us Brave; brave in the dark and brave in the light; but save us from becoming fakers in bravery.

Help us to be Clean – clean in thoughts, in speech, and in deed. And may we remember that our bodies are Thy holy temples, and that any abuse thereof is to tamper with Thy Great Plans.

Above all, O God, help us to be Reverent toward all things which Thou hast made for our enjoyment when we are in Thy great out-of-doors, among the trees, along the streams, and on the Hillsides. May we know it was Thee who made the waters to flow, the trees to reach heavenward, the mountains to endure to all ages.

In all these things we ask that Thou wilt help us. And may we never forget the Scout Oath to which we all have pledged ourselves, so that through Thy help we may live these points of our Scout Law.

Amen
