Warm, lazy days followed by cool nights under a harvest moon or a fist full of stars. Mountains so sharp they seem to touch the sky and breezes that caress the skin. Well trust me…your summer camp staff is pining for it now! They are already starting to prepare for what is shaping up to be one of the best summers ever! Boseker Scout Reservation is also getting ready and campers this year will notice many improvements. From newly repainted cabins and lodges to our recently refurbished (and nicely heated) swimming pool. We will offer arguably the best shooting sports program in Southern California and for the third summer in a row Chef Neil will be providing his outstanding selection of dining options. The theme this year is “The Wild Frontier” and it’s going to be a rootin tootin shootin good time! Speaking of outstanding our summer camp staff and counselors were recognized by the campers last year as being exceptionally professional and knowledgeable. The vast majority of those same individuals are returning this year and the few new staff being added fit the same mold of competence and customer oriented service. The focus will continue to be offering a safe learning environment where the goals of every scout can be realized while having a ton of fun! New merit badge training is also being offered this year such as Search and Rescue and our High Adventure Team will see the Zipline return along with more Mountain Biking opportunities. Attached to this letter is the Camp Emerson 2015 Summer Camp Registration Packet. You will find all the information you need to register for any of the camp sessions as well as the critical dates and fee structures. You will also note this year that our fees are all-inclusive and will cover all the shooting sports and High Adventure activities. A check of our fellow Southern California camps will quickly show that we have the most competitive pricing structure around and on top of that we are a local camp and within 60 to 90 minutes of most of the Council. The early bird gets the worm so be sure and register early to get the prime camping spots. See you at Camp! Boy Scout Accomplishes a Seven-Year Goal | By Kayla Sheldon,Staff Writer Grand Terrace High School (GTHS) Senior and seven-year member of the Grand Terrace Boy Scouts Troop 40, AJ Benson was recently named Eagle Scout. Benson has been recognized many times for his hard work and dedication not only throughout his academics and extracurricular activities, but also throughout his community. Being named Eagle Scout is quite an accomplishment; it is the highest rank to be attained within the Boy Scout program. It takes hard-work, dedication and constant Boy Scout law, service and leadership. As mentioned before, he has been involved in Grand Terrace's Boy Scout Troop 40 for over seven years now, and about eight years with the Riverside Life Streamers. One of the requirements to become an Eagle Scout is to do a service project that benefits the community. "Riverside Life Streamers always wanted to help me with my scouting," he mentioned. Therefore, Benson went right to them about his service project. There was a picnic cover and storage bin in need of a paint job at Hunter Park in Riverside. The boys, ranging in age from 6 to 11, performed the traditional ceremony, during which the flags of the United States and California are honored and presented. In addition, the boys led the crowd in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Sun City Crime Watch was having their Member Apprecation and New Officers Installatin dinner. The Menifee Crime Watch plays a vital role within the Menifee Police Department. Menifee Crime Watch performs high-visibility patrols and fulfills requests for house checks when residents are on vacation. Crime Watch volunteers patrol in 3 hour increments from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, mainly in the Sun City core area and Quail Valley. Additional volunteer opportunities are available to assist at DUI checkpoints, community events, and crime scene and traffic collision response. This is a very dedicated group of individuals who want to make a difference in their community. Because they help reduce crime by being the eyes and ears for the department, their time giving back to their community is well spent and greatly appreciated.
