New | Old Baldy District Camporee at Guasti Park | | This was Troop 646's first Camporee! The Scouts did an awesome job with their Teamwork. We had 8 of our 9 Scouts attend their first Camporee with our 6 Month Old (New) Troop. We were ecstatic when they announced "Troop 646" for the FIRST PLACE WINNER (tied with Troop 720) for "CAMPSITE INSPECTION"!! Troop 646 also won 2nd Place in the "CAMPSITE OVERALL" category! They worked really hard on their Gateway and did not place in that category, but it did count for the "Overall" catagory. The Scouts also got 2nd Place in the Blind-folded Tent Pitching Event. Mrs. Henson also won First Place for the Adult Chili Cook Off! Great job everyone!! | New | Mt. Rubidoux & Five Nations Training | | Who says camporee is just fun and games? Throw in some adult leader training and you get a whole lot more fun and games! The camporee co-hosted by Mt. Rubidoux and 5 Five Nations at Lake Perris State Recreation Area April 17-19 included two training courses. Nineteen adults participated in Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) and Outdoor Leader Training for Webelos Leaders (OWL). Both courses are virtually identical in content so it maked sense to treat them as one. This marks the second time training has been conducted at camporee. What made this training different was that Crew 2 lead the instruction! Yeah, we had boys teach men and women how to enjoy the great outdoors. The crew members were backed by other trainers from Troop 2 and the district committee. Crew 2 advisor and district chair Matt Barth coordinated planning of the training. Venturers Bill Cieslak, William George, Jack Hayes and David DesForges served as trainers. Also making presentations were Summer Pearson, Rick Pohlers, Judy Graeber, Bijan Sharifi-Tabesh, Davey Huxley and Kathy Barth who manned the most important event of the day: lunch! Scouters learned all about cooking with dutch ovens (they made a chocolate cake with peaches) and they made their own ginormous foil dinners! Barbara Archibeque, who ran much of the Cub-o-ree and Weblos-ree that ran concurrently with camporee (Hey, it was huge! Over 400 people!), put the training in perspective for Webelos leaders. The participants camped and dined with their units. How was the training? Nine of the participants took the poll at Surveymonkey. The results? They love us! They love the training! Another highlight for training: Presentation of Wood Badge beads. The ceremony was conducted at the camporee campfire. William Terry, unit commissioner in the district, received his beads from his father, Mark Terry. Mark also happens to be Scoutmaster of the fall session of Wood Badge. And guess who also is on staff? William! So it was a pretty emotional time for all of us big kids. And Eagles rule. Just saying. Mt. Rubidoux is fast approaching the end to its training this season. Two training courses will be held in May. Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is more important then ever for Cub Scouting with the new emphasis on the outdoors. Register at http://www.bsa-ciec.org/event/1664342 The training of youth leaders is a big part of the Scoutmaster's job in the troop. Here to help the Scoutmaster is the original Cedar Badge ILST (Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops). This Cedar Badge also covers the Patrol Leaders Handbook. Check out our blog at https://cedarbadge.wordpress.com, which also has links to the flier, registration and fab video. | New | WR Area 4 Training Calendar for May 2015 | | Scouters: Please find attached a pdf copy of Area 4 Selected Training Events Calendar for May 2015.
