Fall Wood Badge

Scouters and Wood Badge Participants,

Preparations are being made to conduct the fall Wood Badge course, W4-45-15-2 over August 28 – 30, 2015 and September 11 – 13, 2015 at CIEC Camp Emerson in Idyllwild.  Staff is busy getting themselves and the materials needed ready for the course.

Wood Badge Buddies have been assigned to each participant. Their job is to answer questions, address concerns, gather needed information and generally make getting ready for the course easier for participants. With the possible exception of those Scouters who have signed up within the last couple of days, by now all participants should have had direct contact from their Wood Badge Buddy. If you have not, please feel free to write me at watanka1985@yahoo.com; or call at (951) 250-7551.

If you have not signed up for Wood Badge yet, please do so right away. As of last Friday we have 43 participants signed up for the course. Get your registration into the council office right away. Camperships are available on a first come, first served basis. The LDS church offers camperships for members of their church. Scout units and employers often make camperships available as they recognize the value of having a leader trained at Wood Badge.

If you are interested in living the best traditions of Scouting and Wood Badge, learning the leadership skills needed to develop a high-performance team, and ready to develop your vision and legacy for your Scouting career – then apply today!

The application form can be found in the training tab on the CIEC home page. Select Wood Badge, and then click on “Flyer” for your registration application. We look forward to seeing you at Gilwell Field this fall.

Yours in Scouting, Mark Terry, Scoutmaster W4-45-15-2

Troop 646 Kicks off the Summer!

Troop 646 of Alta Loma kicked off the Summer right at the end of May with an awesome campout at Fiesta Island! The Scouts had fun Canoeing and they even got some Rank Advancement done with the Aquatics Instructor of Camp Fiesta Island. The food was delicious, as always and again, the Scouts tried new recipes, such as Debbie’s Red Bear for breakfast, BLTTA for lunch and Carne Asada with beans and homemade rice for dinner. We had perfect weather as well and this campout is one of our favorite campouts so far!  The Troop is looking forward to Summer Camp up North in June for some more adventures!

National Trails Day

Crew 129 partnered with the Pacific Crest Trail Association and the San Bernardino National Forest Service to participate in National Trails Day June 6th. The day was started by a raising our Nation's Flag in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Normandy D-Day. A short flag ceremony with words by Mr. Green, Troop 33 reminding all present to remember all who were involved in any aspect of World War II, whether on active duty or at home performing one of the many supporting activities for our soldiers. We then hiked the Crowder Canyon section of the Pacific Crest Trail and did trail maintenance work along that section of the trail. Thank you to members of Crew 129, Crew 257 and Troop 33 for coming out and celebrating National Trails Day.

Scout Seeks to Turn Eagle by Slaking Mexico’s Thirst

Parker Eliason

By Marianne Napoles

A stomach flu was the catalyst for 16-year-old Chino Hills resident Parker Eliason to bring water cisterns to a small community in central Mexico for his Eagle Scout project.

Parker, who will be a junior at Ayala High next year, said he was so sick from the flu he could not imagine the suffering children endure from dysentery and cholera after drinking contaminated water.

Parker’s goal is to build 36 water cisterns for $9,000.

He said each cistern will collect enough water during three months of rain to sustain a family for the Read More
