Community Service Project with Boy Troop 646

On May 16th, Boy Scout Troop 646 of Alta Loma had 8 Scouts and 3 Adults participate in the North? Etiwanda Preserve Clean-Up, Counting and Survey Day. Members of Troop 646 spent 3 hours pulling Mustard Weed, counting people and taking surveys to honor the "Endangered Species Day", hosted by San Bernardino County. The weather was perfect for all of the tasks involved, especially since it had just rained, it made for easier weed pulling!

National Trails Day Shoreline Cleanup Service Project at Lake Perris

To help celebrate National Trails Day members of the Aca Chapter of Cahuilla Lodge hosted a shoreline cleanup at Lake Perris SRA. We had Scouts in kayaks and canoes paddle out to Alessandro Island to pick up trash along the shoreline. The rangers were especially thankful for our service not only for our ability to get to the island, but that we had the ability to access hard to reach riparian areas with the kayaks.

Once all of our boats were filled to capacity with trash we headed back to the boat launch to dump the refuse we had collected. Afterward, we held a potluck lunch in Sail Cove and spent the rest of a beautiful day just messing around in the kayaks and canoes.

It was a great day spent with sun, water, boats, and cheerful service.

Celebrating National Trails Day!

The A-tsa Chapter of the Order of the Arrow partnered with the Redlands Conservancy today in service and fun! Starting by installing a kiosk, cleaning up Bobcat Bowl and adjoining trails by eradicating invasive plants, we had presentations of proper natural trail repair by the Redlands Conservancy, hiking, scavenger hunt, a brief overview of Leave No Trace by Robert Wilson, Tread Lightly by Christina Quinn and a light lunch. Many hands make light work. Thank you Troop 337, 115, 100, 50, 11, Pack 703, Crew 11, and Girl Scout Troop 2114 for coming out and celebrating National Trails Day!

Carolyn Stanley, Associate Advisor A-tsa Chapter

Venture Crew 641 has a new Eagle Scout

Bryce Johanson from Venture Crew 641 out of Old Baldy District earned his Eagle Scout Rank on 5/28/2015. He is the first member to earn his Eagle Rank through Crew 641, which was founded 2 years ago. His Eagle Project was completed last August at the Lake Elsinore Soaring Club. Bryce saw a need to rebuild the bleachers that visitors could sit on while waiting for friends and family members who were out gliding. The LESC was happy to have Bryce develop a plan to improve the grounds. At his Board of Review, he was joined by his family, Crew Adviser Travis Martois and Paul Reyes who came out to support him. Bryce is an active member of his OA Ceremony team, and will be attending NOAC. In addition, he is doing a 60 mile trek in Philmont with Crew 641 this summer.

Positive Quote & Prayer
---------------------------------

“The real way to gain happiness is to give it to others.”

    ~  Baden-Powell

The Spirit came down and rested on you,
May the same Spirit rest on us,
Bestowing his sevenfold gifts.

Grant us the gift of understanding,
By which your precepts may enlighten our minds.

Grant us counsel, by which we may follow
In your footsteps on the path of righteousness.

Grant us courage,
By which we may ward off the enemy’s attacks.

Grant us knowledge,
By which we can distinguish good from evil.

Grant us piety,
By which we may acquire compassionate hearts.

Grant us fear,
By which we may draw back from evil
And submit to what is good.

Grant us wisdom,
That we may taste the life-giving sweetness of your love.
