BSA Leadership Standards Update and Resources

July 13,2015

The national Key 3 and others consulted with religious organizations following the National Annual Meeting in May on the subject of adult leadership standards. Scout executives from across the country urged national leadership to swiftly act on this matter in order to enhance recruitment prospects for new Scouts beginning this fall.

As a result, the Executive Committee met on Friday, July 10, to review a resolution amending the adult leadership standards policy. That resolution was unanimously adopted by those present and voting. Today, we are sharing this resolution with the National Executive Board and asking them to ratify this resolution on Monday, July 27.

Statement From John Green, BSA High Adventure Group Director

7/3/2015

In the early morning hours of June 27th, Mother Nature visited God's Country and she was not kind. In fact she was brutal, unforgiving and devastating. Whether you’re part of the Philmont family or our Scouting family, losing one of our Scouts brings grief and pain to each and every one of us.

Waite Phillips said, "We do our best and most constructive thinking when we're alone for it's only in silence that God speaks to us." Our shared tragedy leaves us alone in private thoughts, prayers and reflections. Mine are mixed and confusing. On one hand my sorrow for the loss of Scout Alden Brock is heavy, deep and certain to remain for a very long time. On the other hand is a feeling of enormous pride and thankfulness for how bravely the entire Philmont staff performed in the midst of what will probably be recorded as one of the worst flash floods in New Mexico history.

Visiting the several most severely affected sites will leave you awed, speechless, prayerful, and yes, thankful. In the darkness and sudden terror of hearing an unknown roar descending on campsites our staff and leaders performed at extraordinary levels of preparedness.

Almost five thousand were in the mountains dealing with an unimaginable threat and as Scouts do, doing everything possible to help one another.

My final thought is this. As mentioned, some say the noise was like a locomotive or a jet, it was loud. But even though it was hard to hear, the Good Lord did, and he saved all but one. This I will remember forever. God Bless everyone and thank you so much for the tremendous outpouring of support for the family, their troop, and Philmont.

Troops 646 and 634 Relay for Life

The 24 Hour Rancho Cucamonga Relay for Life was held at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park on June 6th and 7th. The event was a huge success, raising over $91,000 in all for the Cancer Patients of Rancho Cucamonga. The team that Troops 646 and 634 helped out with was "Lori's Crew" and our Team raised over $10,000! There were 27 Scouts and Siblings and 19 Scouters and Adults that volunteered 363 hours of time to make this Relay for Life such a success. Everyone pitched in by walking laps, working the Cardenas booth, filling the Luminara bags and placing them around the track, participating in the games such as the Watermelon eating contest, Frozen T-Shirt Lap and more! It was truly a great event with lots of camaraderie between the two Troops and all of the Families and Friends that participated! Both Troops are looking forward to working together again at next years event!

“It’s the spirit within, not the veneer without, that makes a man.”

Dear God,

I did not sleep well last night, but I did wake up.

My muscles are sore, but they work.

My wallet is not full, but my belly is.

I may not have all I want, but I have all I need.

My life is not perfect, but my life is GOOD.

Amen
