Jim is CEO and President of GLEN IVY HOT SPRINGS, INC. has a generously and graciously supported Jamboree, NOAC, camperships, Boseker Scout Reservation, Friends of Scouting and special events. | New | Scout Skills In Action | | Hi Mr. Daniszewski I just wanted to let you know about how proud I'm of my boys Nathaniel and Kenneth Zuniga. Both my boys have worked Summer Camp at Emerson for a number of years. Nathaniel is an Eagle Scout and a Assistant Cub Master for Pack 5. Kenneth is a Life Scout rank. Both boys are part of Ship 195 and Venturing Crew 1919. Nathaniel is getting ready to enter the Navy and Kenneth is getting ready to work on his Eagle project. On August 8, 2015 my husband had a massive heart attack at home and stop breathing. I called out to our sons, to come and help They performed CPR on their father. The boys did not hesitate and jumped right in and did what needed to be done. The paramedics were amazed that the boys did not panic and stayed calm under the circumstance. At the hospital, all the doctors and nurses said that their father was lucky that his boys knew CPR and was alive now only because of their quick response and having the knowledge of how to do CPR. Their father needed a triple bypass and was able to come home after being in the hospital for 10 days. I'm proud that Boy Scouts of America have prepared my boys to be ready in any life situation. New | Deadline Extended for NESA Scholarship Applications | | Due to the overwhelming number of applications that were received in 2014, the NESA scholarship committee has voted to move the NESA scholarship window up two months. The new deadline for submissions is October 31. Applications went online during the first week of August and applicants will have three months to fill out and submit their applications by October 31. All NESA scholarship applications must be submitted online only. Paper copies from previous years are out of date and will not be accepted. Please note: These scholarships are not available to students attending any of the U.S. military academies, because at these academies expenses covered by NESA scholarships are already paid by the U.S. government. Resources: | New | Every Boy Deserve a Trained Leader | | “Every Boy Deserves a Trained Leader” We constantly hear this in Scouting and it is TRUE! Research has determined that a leader that has taken training to become a better leader has a much better understanding of the program and what the Boys Scouts of America are trying to accomplish. As volunteers, most of us just dive into the job and hope that we can figure it out fast enough. The real problem with that approach is that while you are “trying” to figure it out, the youth we serve are not getting the program they deserve. As the goal is to get you trained, let’s show you how simple training is to accomplish. E-Learning: The Boy Scouts of America have Youth Protections Training and many of the leader specific courses online. There are also many of the supplemental trainings available online. - How to Find the BSA Website: Go to your internet and enter www.myscouting.org. Once you are at the website, you will need to create an account; then sign in and go to E-learning. Youth Protection and many of the position specific training are at your fingertips. Most of the courses are roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour. They are interactive; with questions along the way for you to answer to make sure you understand the information. Once you are finished, you can print your certificate and take it to your unit Leaders.
- IMPORTANT: when you sign up you are asked for your Identification number. If you have your registration card, the number will be available there. If not, your Pack leaders can provide you with that number. You can sign on without the Identification number, so don’t let that stop you from taking the training. BUT, please make sure you get your Identification number and add it to your profile. Without the Identification number, you may show as trained online, but the information does not transfer to the Unit, District and Council Records.
Classroom Learning: The California Inland Empire Council will offer the Cub Leader Specific Training, Boy Scout Leader Training, and Venturing Leader Training & Varsity Leader Training periodically through the year. On the council Website, www.bsa-ciec.org, you will find a wealth of information. Under the heading of Training click on the Training Activities and Dates button. There you will find a listing of the trainings happening in the Council. One last thought, we never stop learning and in Boy Scouts of America there are many different supplemental training that will add to your knowledge. Sometimes it is also good to back to the beginning and see what you missed the first time through. Being trained is a gift we give the youth we serve and ourselves. HAPPY LEARNING! Linda Settember, Council Training Chairman |

New | Oceanography Merit Badges | | Troop 50 from Indio hosted a fun overnighter at the San Diego Maritime museum. Scouts from Troop 50, 262,& 377 and families of the CIEC Sunrise District attended an awesome opportunity for Scouts to earn the Oceanography Merit Badge in a hands-on experience. We all enjoyed a boat outing on the Pilot where we toured the San Diego Marina including wildlife, various boats, as well as the U.S.S.Midway, and the Naval Air Station. Scouts participated in various labs and experiments as they worked their badge with extraordinary Merit Badge Counselors. Tours included visits to the Maritime museum as well as both an American and Russian submarine, the Berkley, the Star of India, and our all night experience sleeping on the tall ship the Californian. We had the option to sleep below deck or on deck. The weather was perfect and most chose to sleep under the stars. Food was delicious. Program superior, fun for all! The evening brought opportunity for a movie and fun times spent together. The morning concluded with breakfast, morning pride (ship clean up), a Scouts Own provided by Christopher R. T377 and a full bonus tour of the other tall ship, the Star of India, whose history is phenomenal! Special thanks to our coordinators: Scouter Leanne Schock T50 and Maritime host: Jacob Keenan, event SPL Troy S. T50, our Scout leaders and families for help and participation. In Total 15 Scouts earned the Oceanography Merit Badge and everyone had a great adventure. Leanne Isham Schock | New | Troop 720's Annual Bike Ride to the Beach | | The perfect day! It the 7:00am start, the temperature was down, the energy was high and the attendance was awesome. On Sunday August 23rd, over 75 Scouts and Family members gathered for Troop 720’s 2015 “Bike, BBQ and Beach Bash”. The Bike portion started at the Green River Offramp where many local bicyclists park and ride. The ride takes you through beautiful well maintained pathways, classic wooden bridges, park detours and final along the California Coastline ending at Lifeguard Tower 2, Huntington State Beach. When our scouts and adults arrived at the beach from a 30 mile trek they were greeted by thunderous applause, ice cold water, tons of great food, a cool breeze in the shaded tent structures and crashing ocean waves. After a few minutes of rest and food, we took turns boogie boarding and body surfing in the ocean, building sand castles or burying their fellow scouts in the sand. The day ended with an amazing sunset and everyone pitching in to help break down all of the gear.
