I believe that my favorite merit badge I did was archery, yes I did enjoy the other badges but archery was my favorite as I got to shoot the bow and build an arrow. I also enjoyed most of the food as most of it was amazing and delicious. I also enjoyed the trading post as there were many interesting things there. One of my favorite events was the zip-line as I did a wonderful morning speech to go to breakfast. So for all the wonderful things during summer camp I say thanks. Your Thanks, Frank G. |

There is a FREE event on Saturday, November 19, at the Hidden Valley Nature Center in western Riverside, that includes both of these courses to help scouts earn these requirements. There will be a short approximately 30-45 minute class beginning at 9am to teach and review the basics of map and compass reading as well as touch on some orienteering before the scouts venture off on their treks. Adult leaders will be required to accompanying the scouts on their journey. Last year we were able to help 45 scouts, we'd love to see that number higher this year. If you have any questions, please contact Geoff Kahan | | |

That, in a nutshell, is the story of Stephanie Sun, a 26-year-old who teaches fifth grade at Achievement First Brownsville School in Brooklyn, New York, who absolutely loves what she does. Not only does she love it; she’s darn good at it too—so much so that she beat out hundreds of other teachers to earn a coveted award. Sun was one of four teachers across the country who won the 2015 Fishman Prize for Superlative Classroom Practice, which honors teachers working in high-poverty public schools. Keith Brooks, her principal, told the Daily News that Sun reminds him of the teachers who inspired him over the years. Nor is that name out of place. She’s known as “Miss Sunny” and “Miss Sunshine” around the building because of her enthusiasm for the job. Sun reveals that her passion for teaching never wanes: “I just know if I’m around kids, I’ll always have the energy to keep going.” May my teaching drop like the rain, my speech condense like the dew. (Deuteronomy 32:2) Each of us are teachers in our own ways, Lord. Help us to reflect Your truth and love always. Prayer Before An Election Lord God, as the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our city/state/country, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community. We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty. Men and women oppressed because of race or creed, religion or gender. We ask for minds and hearts that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom. We pray for discernment so that we may choose leaders who hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace. Quote On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our Veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our Veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free ~ Dan Lipinski | Joe Daniszewski Scout Executive/CEO California Inland Empire Council California Inland Empire Council, BSA PO Box 8910 1230 Indiana Court Redlands, CA 92374 909.793.2463, Ext. 120 877.732.1450 FREE 909.793.0306 Fax Monday Memo is from Scout Executive Joe Daniszewski and contains his reflection on what is happening within the Council.
