77th Annual Lincoln Pilgrimage
By Kristina Hernandez, Redlands Daily Facts
REDLANDS >> Seven score and 13 years after Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address, Lincoln impersonator Scott Nelson conveyed those same remarks Saturday on the Redlands Bowl Stage.
The re-enactment was part of the 77th annual Lincoln Pilgrimage, an event planned by the Boy Scouts of America’s Grayback District to recognize and celebrate Lincoln’s legacy.
“The reason why we continue to do it is because we get new Scouts every year … and we want to introduce the new Scouts to the program and get them involved in the heritage of Lincoln and everything about him,” said Mark Shaffer, Pilgrimage committee chairman.
Hundreds of Boy and Girl Scouts participated in this year’s Pilgrimage, which made its way up Citrus Avenue from Redlands High School to the Bowl, where a short program followed. READ MORE.....

Commissioners: How Will You Help Grow Exploring in 2016 & Beyond?
In 2016, the BSA is focusing on a mission-driven, nationwide Exploring growth campaign that engages more volunteers and professionals, advances local programs, and ultimately improves the Journey to Excellence scores for local councils.
As part of this membership initiative, local councils will have access to free or very low-cost tools to help the BSA grow this incredible career-based program for our young adults. To learn more, please visit: www.exploringexplosion.org
There are many unit commissioners that are currently serving traditional and Exploring units. In 2017, Commissioner Tools will have access to all of the Exploring units. This will allow councils and districts to assign and make contacts for traditional and Exploring units, but not Learning for Life. Look to the May 2016 issue of the Commissioner Newsletter for more information.
Camp Cards are a discount card for vendors’ products or services. They are specific to your city with the discounts listed on each card. Each unit can order cards for any city so if family/friends live in another town, you can sell them a card for their location. This is the quickest and easiest way to raise funds for your Scouts’ needs.
Each card sells for $10.00. The unit gets $ 4.50 from each sale with the balance going to the producer of the cards and to council. That means if a Scout sells 20 cards, $90 stays with the unit. These cards are annual discounts and are good for the whole year.
These cards can be ordered/requested starting NOW with your unit receiving them by March 1st. Anticipate the number of cards wanted and place your order.
A $50 deposit is required at time of order and will be applied against your total order. All money is to be turned in by May 31st. Unsold cards are to be returned at this time though the unit may purchase the cards and continue to sell during the year.
Attend our 1st kick off at Bass Pro in Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday, February 25th at 7PM and find out more about our NEW Camp Card! Scouts and adults are welcome! RSVP by Tuesday, February 23rd with Ricci Dula at rydula@bsamail.org. Hear best practices, campaign timeline, incentives for your youth, and MORE!!
Grants of at least $1,000.00 will be presented in each region to help aspiring Eagle Scouts reach their goals. Get the details on Scouting Wire and complete the application before February 28, 2016.

Producers of the Animal Planet television series Finding Bigfoot might be Sasquatch-searching experts, but even they were impressed with the tracking skills possessed by a Boy Scout troop from the Middle Tennessee Council.
For years, this adventurous troop has been going on expeditions to see if legends about a “Tennessee Bigfoot” are true. The boys took an interest in this local yeti theory about four years ago, according to their Scout leader Joe Bilyeu, and they have been using their keen Scouting abilities for the fact-finding mission ever since.
The age-old monster folklore has taken the Scouts on several wilderness adventures. They have camped, canoed, ridden on horseback, and even spelunked through caves for the sake of their Sasquatch research. Read More.....

“It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit”
~ Harry S. Truman
Almighty GOD; we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection, that thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States of America at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of The Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech thee, Amen.
