Scouter Roger Marron to be Recognized at Veteran Charity Event

Pearl Harbor survivor Roger Marron, 95, of Corona, on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015.Roger Marron may be known to many of you: 1930's era Boy Scout, Wood Badge Course Director, Quartermaster Extraordinaire, local Scoutmaster, Pearl Harbor Survivor.

Because of Roger's experience in World War II as one of only a very few Pearl Harbor survivors left to tell their tale, he will be recognized at We Remember: A Night for Veterans, a charity fundraising dinner to be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside.  This event will raise funds on behalf of U.S. VETS, a national 501c3 organization active in the Inland Empire assisting homeless veterans.

Roger's part in the program will be brief, but as the days go by and with the passing of his wife Millie, doing something nice for Roger Marron while we still can seems to me to be a great idea.  Add to that the opportunity to raise funds to assist homeless veterans transition to civilian life, many suffering from PTSD...I think you can see the value in this event.

I realize the price is high at $75 per person, but fully $50 (tax deductible) of that ticket cost goes directly to U.S. VETS.

Can you imagine how Roger would feel being surrounded by his fellow Scouters at such a special occasion?   Wearing your official Scout uniform is of course approved.  Unfortunately, Foxfire regalia doesn't meet the Canyon Crest Country Club attire requirements, but please, those of you who are fellow Foxfire Clansmen, don't let that stand in the way of this great opportunity!

Both Roger and I would consider it a great kindness if you would forward this email to all of your Scouting Associates.

CLICK HERE for more information about how to sign up for the dinner.  If you can't attend, please consider making a donation or providing a sponsorship.

Mike Terry, AKA Wakanta
Buckskin, Foxfire & Wood Badge Course Director

National Trails Day

The CIEC Outdoor Ethics Committee and Cahuilla Lodge Order of the Arrow together are again promoting the 2016 American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day.

June 4, 2016 is American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day, the country’s largest celebration of trails. National Trails Day events will take place in every state across the country and will include hikes, biking and horseback rides, paddling trips, birdwatching, geocaching, gear demonstrations, stewardship projects and more. America’s 200,000 miles of trails allow us access to the natural world for recreation, education, exploration, solitude, inspiration, and much more. Trails give us a means to support good physical and mental health; they provide us with a chance to breathe fresh air, get our hearts pumping, and escape from our stresses.

If your unit has a conflict with the first Saturday in June, plan your National Trails Day® event for a day or weekend that works best for you.

For more information or question about CIEC Scouting activities for National Trails Day please contact:

Spring Break with Troop 646!

At the end of March, Troop 646 took an extended weekend and camped out at San Clemente State Beach for Spring Break. The weather was perfect for hanging out at the beach and hanging out at the campsites, which over looked the ocean.

The Scouts and Adults had a great time cooking (& eating!) new recipes in the Dutch Oven, like "Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Pie"and "Red Beefy Enchiladas". During the day, in between cooking and cleaning, the Scouts participated in a Totin'

Chip class and worked on various Rank Advancement requirements. There was plenty of time to just have fun and hang out at the Beach as well! Camping at the Beach is always a great time and the Troop looks forward to the next outing!

Positive Quote & Prayer
-------------------------------

"Americanism means the virtues of courage, honor, justice, truth, sincerity, and hardihood -- the virtues that made America."

    ~  Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) 26th President of the United States

A Prayer for Spring: Daffodils

Wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills.
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a boy:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company;
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

    ~  William Wordsworth
