New | Camp Wiley a Cub Scout Resident Camp | | Dear Cub Scout Leaders and Parents: It has come to our attention that many of the Scouters in our Council may still not be aware that the California Inland Empire Council does indeed operate a resident camp designed specifically for Cub Scouts. That camp is Camp Wiley located in the San Jacinto portion of the San Bernardino National Forest near Idyllwild California. We are particularly proud of our camp and want to extend a personal invitation to every Cub Scout in our Council to come up and see what we have to offer. We accept Cub Scouts from Tiger through Webelos and have designed our program to conform to the latest program structure from National Boy Scouts of America. If you’re looking for an opportunity for your Cubs to advance in your Dens and Packs this is a great place to do it. We do encourage parents to attend with their Cubs, but recognize that is not always possible and allow for a 1 adult to 4 Cub ratio. Our camp is nationally accredited by the BSA National Camp Accreditation Program and Camp Wiley has a history of many years of proven success and happy campers. We have a top notch, professional staff, many of whom have been on the staff roster for a number of years. Rest assured your Cub will receive individual attention and be treated like they are the most important camper for the entire time they are there. Camp Wiley offers a multitude of programs designed with the Cub Scout in mind. We have arguably the finest shooting sports program in Southern California with our BB Gun and Archery Ranges; our Aquatics Program offers nationally trained instructors to help improve swimming skills and provide a safe swimming environment in our heated pool; we offer Arts and Crafts and a terrific Nature Program; your Cubs will get to sleep under the stars and this year eat dinner with King Wiley and his Knights of the Round Table. For those families needing a little extra help we offer a subsidy in the form of our Campership Program and the application can be found at www.BSA-CIEC.org under the Camping tab. You can also find the “Top Ten Reasons” for coming to camp on the front of our website. New | Explorers Assist in Honoring Law Enforcement in Riverside County | | On April 28, 2016, about one hundred Police Explorers and their advisors from thirteen Riverside County Explorer Posts helped support the 38th Annual Western Riverside County Law Enforcement Appreciation Committee (LEAC) Awards Ceremony held at the Riverside Convention Center in Riverside. LEAC is a non-profit community based organization focused on annually acknowledging the sacrifice and service efforts of law enforcement officers in Western Riverside County. In addition to honoring Riverside County’s law enforcement fallen, men and women recognized by LEAC have been recommended by their departments for exemplary actions related to community service, investigative excellence, K-9 Team, lifetime achievement, and Valor. Much of the planning for this event accomplished through the efforts of dedicated volunteer community members. Without these volunteers, the event and recognition of our public servants would not be possible. The Explorer’s participation in the LEAC Ceremony is invaluable and helps to reinforce the significance of this community recognition of our public servants. Additionally, throughout the evening members of the committee repeatedly received compliments and praise for the presence, professionalism, courtesy, and cheerful helpfulness of the Explorers. The group was led by Explorers from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Post # 880. The Explorers helped at registration, table escorts, equipment display monitoring and other fixed positions. Their efforts were noticed and greatly appreciated. LEAC looks forward to having their participation next year. Our country needs more people who will put in more than they will take out…and, perhaps more than ever, we need Scouting."
