| | |  |  | June 6th, 2016 | New | Prayer on D-Day June 6th, 1944 | | My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. It has come to pass with success thus far. And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer: Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith. They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph. They will be sore tried, by night and by day, without rest-until the victory is won. The darkness will be rent by noise and flame. Men's souls will be shaken with the violences of war. For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and good will among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home. Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom. Many people have urged that I call the Nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts. Give us strength, too - strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces. And let our hearts be stout, to wait out the long travail, to bear sorrows that may come, to impart our courage unto our sons wheresoever they may be. And, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade. Let not the keenness of our spirit ever be dulled. Let not the impacts of temporary events, of temporal matters of but fleeting moment let not these deter us in our unconquerable purpose. With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogancies. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. New | Volunteers get Camp Emerson ready for the Summer | | Camp Emerson is ready for summer thanks to the big efforts of a small group of volunteers during the Memorial Day weekend. Under the guidance of Ranger Nancy Matson, 61 people completed a variety of tasks. The work day had been promoted for many months. Troop 25 from Yucaipa helped prepare the shooting range. Supervising them were Chris Andrews, CIEC Shooting Sports Committee, and his son Dean; and Pat "Peaches" Rogers, camp Shooting Sports Director. In return for all that sweat equity, they could complete the shooting portion of the Rifle Merit Badge. The troop also camped beside the lake (which is full everybody!). Members from Troop 384 and Pack 614 of Temecula, Troop and Crew 129 of Jurupa Valley, Troop 360 of Orange County, and Troop 707 of 29 Palms cleaned buildings, swept roofs and whacked weeds and tall grass. Also helping clean up camp were Judy Graeber, OA member, and CIEC Board members Bob Swartzel (accompanied by Loroselle), and Bob Quezada and his family. A major project was building the platforms for the Philmont tents that were purchased by Cahuilla Lodge and generous Arrowmen. The lumber for the platforms was donated through the efforts of Ranger Nancy. But it was up to Lodge Chief Griffin Martois, Lodge 1st Vice Chief Hayden Martois, OA member Rick Pohlers and Tahquitz Chapter Adviser Keith Weinrich, who manned the saw, to cut the lumber to size. Weinrich and his son Ted returned Sunday to assemble eight of the platform frames on location in Cahuilla Flats. The remainder of the wood was off loaded at the site and is ready for assembly. Bob Woodward of Navajo Chapter kept the kitchen humming with the sounds of meals in preparation such as a barbecue lunch and a delicious dinner of grilled chicken, baked potato, and German chocolate cake. Manning the dinner grill was Matt Flanagan, Cahuilla Lodge 1st Vice Chief Adviser and member of the CIEC Board. Flanagan’s company, Shelton’s Poultry, donated the chicken. All food was donated: Camp chef Neil Royer provided fruit for snack, lunch and dinner. Cahuilla Treasurer Jarod Quinn and Christina Quinn of A-tsa Chapter collected and delivered snacks, cases of water, tomatoes and potatoes. Michael Hare, Wanakik chapter adviser, collected hot dogs and buns. Debra Foley of Troop 129 collected chips for lunch. A total of 491 hours of service to camp were given by the volunteers. Besides the satisfaction of service there was an additional bonus: Free camping. Many volunteers stayed overnight in campsites or the cabins. There’s lots to do in camp for families such as dayhikes, exploring, splashing barefoot in the creek or just resting under the cool Jeffrey pines. Rubidoux District as he receives his Doctorate of Commissioner Science degree from Council Commissioner Matt Flanagan. Stu had taken all of the requisite courses in the College of Commissioner Science over the years to qualify for candidacy in the Doctorate program. Doctorate Candidates are required to either develop a Thesis of such effort to be worth of the degree or perform a project, approved by the Council Commissioner, of sufficient worth to the Council. Stu chose to develop and lead a project. Stu recognized a need for a robust religious emblem program for our Jewish Scouts and Scouters, and having been involved with the Jewish Committee on Scouting he knew he had work to do. Over several YEARS Stu developed a plan to train and recruit Jewish Scouts and Scouters to use the materials provided by the BSA to earn the various Religious Awards available from the National Jewish Committee on Scouting. Those Awards include the Maccabee award (Cubs Tigers, Wolves and Bears), the Aleph Award (Bears, and Webelos), Ner Talmid (Boy Scouts in 6-8th grades), Etz Chaim (for all youth {co-ed} 9-12th grade), and the Shofar Award (For Adults). Local temples and Rabbi’s were given the materials and instruction on how to administer the Awards programs. This was a major undertaking, and we are proud of what Stu has accomplished. For his efforts in developing and promoting these programs, it was my pleasure to present to Stu Muller the degree of Doctorate of Commissioner Science. The College of Commissioner Science is held annually here in CIEC as well as other local councils. New | Memorial Day 2016 | |  Troop 214 under the direction of Pomona American Legion Post 30 and the Pomona Cemetery, placed over 700 flags on the graves of soldiers that date all the way back to the Civil War days. We also participated in handing out bags to guests of their 130th annual Memorial Day Service. The Cemetery is celebrating it's 140th year. Troops present to help were Troop 214, 220 Chino Hills. New | National Trials Day 2016 | | For National Trails Day, 34 members of Pack 1230 hiked Mount Rubidoux bright and early to avoid the soaring temperatures and take advantage of the beautiful on top and enjoy a light snack! Included in our hike was one of our newest upcoming members of our new den of LIONs. We had 2 teams go up different sides of the trail, those that felt they could handle the steeper side, chanted our Pack yell ALL the way up... And ALL the way down! Talk about enthusiasm! Those of the pack that needed a gentler incline took the other side and enjoyed the walk. Meeting at the top for our group picture to add to our book of memories and our Summertime Activity Chart for June!! Debb Walker, Founder Pack 1230/Cubmaster  | New | Escape Room Fun | | Crew 641 out of Rancho Cucamonga and Crew 107 out of Corona joined forces to participate in Exodus Escape Room in Rancho Cucamonga. Exodus Escape Room, The Quake Escape room, works in that your team are at a dinner party, enjoying a night out when all of the sudden a "massive earthquake" comes about and traps everyone in the room. This hour-long escape room experience require teamwork to help get everyone out of the room. Puzzles are located around the room that have to be solved. Crews 641 and 107 were able to "Escape" with 2 minutes and 53 seconds left on the clock. It was a great experience and opportunity for the members of the crews to bond. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944. Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned. The freemen of the world are marching together to victory. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory. Good Luck!
