We Welcome Tucker Adams

Good Afternoon my name is Tucker Adams and I am a new Senior District Executive with the CIEC.

I am very excited to be working in the Sunrise District! I started on July 11th learning about camp and it's amazing 97-year history.

I am very excited to meet as many people as I can within the Council and beyond, feel free to contact me with any questions! Below I have compiled for you a series of short but important questions.

  1. Where did you come from?
I hail from the land of the snow, lobsters and endless wilderness, the great State of Maine serving previously with the Pine Tree Council.
  2. Family Fun Fact?
When I was young we had a moose in our pool that refused to get out. He lounged around all day paying no mind to the humans snapping pictures of him.
  3. Favorite Ice Cream?
Ben and Jerry's (preferably of a caramel variety)
  4. Most memorable Scouting Experience?
Completing my Eagle Project in honor of my Grandfather who was also an Eagle Scout.
  5. What is the best way to get in contact with you?
Email is the best method to get in contact with me. Tucker.Adams@Scouting.org but feel free to call the office at 909-793-2463 ext. 102 if it needs to be sooner or you love to chat like I do.
  6. What do you think of California so far?
The beauty of the mountains is breathtaking when you get up into the clouds, especially at BSR, where my favorite sight to see is Taquitz Peak from the Meadow, however Mainers do well only in the cold and sometimes the heat gets to me quick, but adjustment will surely come soon enough!
  7. What are your other duties as assigned?
Sunrise District is my main focus but CAMPING is my other! I will be overseeing the Boseker Scout Reservation and participating in the Properties Committee, Camping & Outdoor Promotion Committee, Shooting Sports and 100thCamp Emerson Committee. I look forward to working with everyone.

We are going to have some WICKED good fun!

Fall Wood Badge

Scouters and Wood Badge Participants,

Preparations are being made to conduct the fall Wood Badge course, W4-45-16-2 over August 26 – 28, 2016 and September 9 – 11, 2016 at CIEC Camp Emerson in Idyllwild. The Staff is busy getting themselves and the materials needed ready for the course.

Wood Badge Buddies have been assigned to each participant. Their job is to answer questions, address concerns, gather needed information and generally make getting ready for the course easier for participants.  With the possible exception of those Scouters who have signed up within the last couple of days, by now all participants should have had direct contact from their Wood Badge Buddy. If you have not, please feel free to write me at troop304sm@aol.com; or call at (909) 720-7359.

If you have not signed up for Wood Badge yet, please do so right away. The course is filling rapidly. Get your registration into the council office right away. Camperships are available on a first come, first served basis. The LDS church offers camperships for members of their church. Scout units and employers often make camperships available as they recognize the value of having a leader trained at Wood Badge.

If you are interested in living the best traditions of Scouting and Wood Badge, learning the leadership skills needed to develop a high-performance team, and ready to develop your vision and legacy for your Scouting career – then apply today!

The application form can be found by CLICKING HERE. We look forward to seeing you at Gilwell Field this fall.

Yours in Scouting, Ken Hedrick, Scoutmaster W4-45-16-2

Honor Troop Award

Congratulations to Troop 641 -- Three-Time Honor Troop Award Winners

Old Baldy District Troop 641 was awarded the coveted Honor Troop award at Camp Fiesta Island in San Diego. Honor Troop is awarded to only one Troop from among all those attending the camp session, and to be considered the troop must meet eight CFI requirements:

1. Lead a Flag Ceremony before a meal.
2. Sing a Song at Morning or Evening Flags.
3. Wear full and correct Field Uniforms to evening Flags and Dinner each night.
4. Fulfill Meal Cleanup and other assigned Cleanup Duties during the week.
5. Complete a Conservation Project in Camp.
6. Demonstrate Scout Spirit: Live the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Slogan and Outdoor Code during the week.
7. Maximum Participation at the Scout’s Own Service is Expected.
8. Participate in a Skit/Song at the Friday Night Campfire.

This is the third summer camp in a row that the Troop was selected as Honor Troop. The first was at Fiesta Island in 2013, and they also received the Golden Knot award at Camp Emerson in 2015, which is their version of the Honor Troop award. The Troop didn’t attend a BSA summer camp in 2014, but instead completed a 50-mile canoe trip down the Colorado River. Troop 641 is chartered the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8680 in Rancho Cucamonga, and they had every Scout but one attend CFI this summer.

Salesmanship Merit Badge

Reporting from the Trading Post from Week 3. The Salesmanship Merit Badge is always a popular one.

Every student is given an item to sale it can be anything in the Trading Post. They create a Sales Pitch and sale to the world's toughest customer, Ms. Bubbles. This group had a blast selling their items, a Giant Spoon, brass plate, Rubber Rat, Rubber Duckies a Shield and The Boseker Beanie. Happy to report they did great sales pitches. This is why we work Summer Camp.

The Smiles on the Scout faces make every day at Summer Camp, The Greatest Day Ever!! Huzzah From The Trading Post.

Positive Quote & Prayer
---------------------------------

"The only things we keep permanently are those we give away,"

    ~  Waite Phillips

Heavenly Father, In these days of summer, May seeds planted sprout and grow.
Where there has been storm or drought, May renewal in hope soon follow.
Through these days of summer, Please bless the children at play.
May they always trust in You, Who desire that none go astray.
While the days of summer Bring longing to be carefree, Please comfort all who suffer, Whether in soul or mind or body.
Thank You for summer days, Offering again the chance To see in Your creation A reflection of love’s abundance.

Amen
