I hope your holiday season has brought you closer to family and friends, re-ignited your passions for service, and renewed your commitment to Scouting and the youth in the California Inland Empire Council. We face a lot of change in 2018: the family program in Cub Scouting begins as we allow young girls to join Cub Scout Packs, our District Realignment, adding new professional scouters to help our units grow and be more successful, and we are hiring a new Scout Executive after the retirement of Joe Daniszewski last November. As leaders, we need to be positive agents of change, giving all our best efforts to ensuring that the Scouting Program thrives in the Inland Empire. There have been a lot of questions from Scouting leaders on the process for finding and hiring a new Scout Executive for our council. Here’s a synopsis: The Council President (the top volunteer in the council) appoints a volunteer committee of Executive Board members, Community leaders and Scouters to a selection committee. Our Council President Michael O’Connor, has asked me and other dedicated people to serve with him on that selection committee. The selection committee is guided by recruiting experts from National to develop a profile, a wish list of skills for a new Scout Executive. After the profile is developed, the recruiters from National work to find a pool of qualified applicants that are interested in the position. We have narrowed down the field of 9 applicants to 4 finalists that we will be interviewing in January. After our interviews of the 4 finalists, the Selection committee will choose a successor and offer him or her the position. For the record, we would absolutely have considered a female applicant if there had been one, but we did not receive any applications for the position from a woman. We look forward to finding a Scout Executive that will lead us into the future of the CIEC and help us all deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth of the Inland Empire. But these are not open to every man-nor do they bring what is real success, namely, happiness." ~Robert Baden-Powell A SCOUT'S PRAYER We have hiked along life's pathway, Our packs upon our backs, We have pitched our tents and rested Here and there along the tracks. We have used our compass wisely To guide us on our way And hope to reach the campsite Of our Great Chief Scout some day. We have tried to be trustworthy - Kept our honor high and clean, We have been as loyal as any To our Country and our Queen. We have done our best at all times - Kept our Promise - been prepared, And hope our good deeds please Him When at last our souls are bared. We have lightened others' burdens, With our smiles along the way, We have kept our hand in God's hand, Walked beside Him day by day. And when our span of life runs out, We'll make this gentle plea - May we sit around His Campfire At the Final Jamboree. | Monday Memo is from the Council and contains our reflection on what is happening within the Council.
