Champ Camp

CHAMP CAMP is coming up January 14th. Bring your pack to come and enjoy a great time. Each cub can get their Pine Wood Derby car designed and cut at our Cut Station. After that we'll have a special Paint & Body Station where they can paint their car, add on weights, and add on some cool decals. Then, it will be off to the Weigh In Station and soon after, they are off to the Track Station where they will have fun testing their cars out with other Cubs. It's going to be a great day to have some Pine Wood Derby fun. Don't forget the new 2017 patches are in, along with participation ribbons, place ribbons, and trophies.

This will be an all-day event. 10:30am - 3:00pm.

Refugee Youths Find Safe Haven in Boy Scouts of America

EVERGREEN, Colo. (AP) — Boy Scouts Jean Tuyishime and Moise Tuyikunde sit around a crackling campfire under a canopy of stars in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, joking and teasing each other as adolescent brothers tend to do. Only two and a half years ago, they were a world away living at the crowded Gihembe refugee camp, built on a sprawling and dusty expanse of land in northern Rwanda.

The brothers were born in the camp after their parents fled violence in 1996 in what was then known as Zaire. They relocated with their family to the Denver area in 2014, and they gradually assimilated into their new surroundings, learning to speak enough English to get by and signing up for a quintessential American experience — Boy Scouts.

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification Course

As BSA Scouters, my wife, Jessie Andrews and I are proctoring another USA Archery Level ONE Instructor Certification Course. We offer this course first to the BSA community, then as vacancies arise, to the general public. The course is limited to just 12 students.

The BSA National Shooting Sports Manuel requires all BSA Archery Merit Badge Councilors to acquire the USA Archery Level ONE Instructor certification.

To quote the 2016 BSA Shooting Sports Manual:

"Archery Training-USA Archery/NFAA Level 1 Instructor.

This universal USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification course is administered by USA Archery, the official organization for Olympic archery. This training program is conducted in conjunction with the National Field Archery Association (NFAA).

Candidates for the Level 1 instructor certification are primarily camp counselors and those working with entry-level students. The eight-hour curriculum includes range setup and safety, steps of shooting, basic equipment repair, coaching positions, and testing.

USA Archery/NFAA Level 1 archery instructors may teach the Basic Archery course and the Archery merit badge. To serve as a merit badge counselor, he or she must hold current BSA registration as a merit badge counselor. In addition, the certified instructor may serve as a range master for a Cub Scout archery activity."

Please click here for the USA Archery Level ONE Instructor certification course that we are proctoring on Saturday 18 February 2017 at Cherry Valley Bowhunters Archery Club, in Cherry Valley, California.
