Dahlquist, II BSA National Commissioner | New | Strengthen Your Community Through Law Enforcement | | The plan is simple — show your support of community policing by building meaningful relationships with the law enforcement agencies in your communities. Together with those agencies, aim to make positive, lasting impacts on the future of more youth than ever before using the Exploring program as the means to reach your mutual goal. For more information on growing Law Enforcement Exploring in your area, please see the attached (Law Enforcement Exploring Initiative 2017.pdf) or visit online at: www.exploringexplosion.org | New | Operation On Target Report From Butler Peak | | Troop 106 Mt.Rubidoux CIEC was on Keller Peak near Big Bear Lake Saturday for the biannual peak-peak mirror signaling event, Operation On-Target. They successfully flashed Butler Peak, San Bernardino Peak, Strawberry Peak and Ranger Peak. Crew 76 on Butler Peak photographed Troop 106 and Troop 788's flashes (2nd photo), and flashed back (3rd photo). The scouts also communicated directly via Amateur Radio. Nicholas, Troop 788 Pacifica GLAAC, (KB6NJC) was able to contact Abi, Crew 76, (KK6VFH) to confirm the flashes (3rd photo). Troop 106 flashed Team 730 (Arrowhead District, CIEC), on San Bernardino Peak, and exchanged flashes with CIEC On-Target Coordinator Ron Herbert at Ranger Peak (27 miles) and adult volunteers at Strawberry Peak (11 miles (4th photo)). The next event is the 3rd Saturday in September (9/16/2017) - signup with Ron Herbert at (951) 685-6556. Learn more about Operation On-Target at www.bsaontarget.org. Crew 76 on Butler Peak | New | Keller Peak | | We had two groups on Keller peak today, so we had good coverage is all directions We saw and signalled several teams on the surrounding peaks with confirmation Highlights Successfully signal Butler peak with both hand held 12”x12 Mirrors and a tripod mounted 2’x2’ mirror. Also saw flashes from that site to Keller. Confirmation by Radio For targets to the west of Keller, the sun was at our back, so we used our 2’x2’ mirror as a base to do a double bounce to signal both Strawberry and Wilson peak. Confirmation by Radio We could easily see flashes from Strawberry and they could see ours Using the double bounce setup, we were able to signal Mt Wilson (57 miles). They confirmed our flashes by radio and said they could clearly see them and they were the strongest they had seen all day. Unfortunately we could not see any flashes from Mt Wilson back to Keller Peak. We were using a 42” mobile antenna so we were able to talk to the team at Santa Rosa on the Radio but we did not have a line of sight to that location so we could not signal. We tried unsuccessfully to reach the teams via radio on San Bernardino Peak, Elsinore, or Jacinto. I see Richard said the team on Elsinore had technical challenges. Did anyone hear from the team on San Bernardino Peak? This was our first year doing this event and everyone in our team had a great time. Definitely will do it again. Dominic Carrozza, KD6DPC Troop 788 on Keller Peak |

| | Help Us Build A Legacy: The 2017 James E. West Endowment Fellowship | | | A Scout Salute for all the time, talent and treasure you share on behalf of our Scouts! Would you consider joining the James E. West Endowment Fellowship in 2017? | Ralph Waldo Emerson observed that “an institution is the lengthened shadow of one man” Today, Scouting is the “lengthened shadow” of the farseeing and dedicated leadership provided by Dr. James E. West. In 1910, James E. West became the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, and he served in that position for more than three decades. The James E. West Fellowship Award is available for gifts of $1,000 and up in cash or marketable securities to the Council Endowment Fund. The gift must be in addition to and not replace or diminish the donor’s annual Friends of Scouting support. Many individuals and corporations make these gifts either on behalf of someone else, such as in honor of an Eagle Scout, Silver Beaver recipient, a retirement, a special accomplishment, or anniversary or in memory of a special individual. If an institution is truly “the lengthened shadow of one man,” it is more than fitting that the BSA honor James E. West’s monumental contributions to Scouting in such a significant way. Please support our California Inland Empire Council! What a great way to honor Scouting! You may designate a family member, Scout or Scouter as a Memorial or Tribute as well. Reply back with your James E. West pledge, mail in your check or DONATE HERE | New | Update on the Camp Emerson 360 Project | | On July 12 OA members from Cahuilla Lodge visited Boseker Scout Reservation to begin their first session of filming 360 videos and drone videos featuring some of the great programs at our Council's summer camp. Their first round of filming captured the evening assembly and segments of camp life during summer camp. They were also able to fly a drone adjacent to the evening assembly to capture aerial photos of the troops lined up just before closing colors was performed. The video above shows a sneak peak of some of the videos that they will be producing to create an immersive experience for the would-be scout that is interested in some of the great programs offered at Boseker Scout Reservation. | New | Camp Use Update | | Camp Emerson | Week 1 | July 10-15 | Avail | Week 2 | July 16-22 | Avail | Week #3 | July 24-29 | Avail | Campsite | Tr # Thank You for the warmth of the sun and the increased daylight. Thank You for the beauty I see all around me and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation. Thank You for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family, and for the more casual pace of the summer season. Draw me closer to You this summer. Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing. Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence, and light my path with Your Word and Counsel. As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You. Amen.
