BMX Drawing Winner

Congratulations to Christopher from Pack 421 who won the BMX drawing in July.   Christopher invited and recruited a friend into his pack this spring during the councils "Recruit A Friend" program, making him eligible for the drawing to earn a fitted bike.  Great job Christopher!

On This Adventure You Are Allowed To Get Dirty

And muddy, too!  The mud tug-o-war will be among the many activities for Boy Scouts during Adventure Weekend at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Rodeo that will be held Sept. 22-24 in Glen Helen Regional Park. Many exciting activities are planned for troops such as: midnight glow volleyball, mountain bike track and flash mob experiences. Canoes also will be available for use by all Scouts and guests during this fun family campout for all. Participants, from units to families,  can camp Friday and/or Saturday night. Or just come for the day to enjoy all the activities. And there are plenty! How about this for adventure for Scouts: Climbing tower, camp games, archery, BB-gun range, food vendors, activity booths and admission to the rodeo! More still to come! BSA Family Program Discussion Material

Hello all,

I’m going to make a guess that most of you did not have time to make it to one of the 4 discussions that were held to discuss the proposals regarding a whole Family for the BSA at this year’s Annual Meeting by our Chief Scout Executive, Mike Surbaugh.

I would like you all to take the time to read the attached materials, keeping in mind that there has been NO DECISION MADE on the subject yet, and watch the video that explains all of the thinking that has been done on the topic at the National level, read the FAQ and then, and only after all that please consider submitting your opinion online via the link.

The discussions were scripted by National as a way to ensure that everyone providing feedback was given access to the same exact information.

So the steps I’d like you to take are:

Read the “Introduction for Family Program meeting.pdf”

Then watch the video at this link.  https://vimeo.com/222907705 (Password: 1910BSA!)

Then read the “Discussion Guide for Family Program.pdf”

Then please register to provide your feedback at this link after all of that.  Not before…  I’m watching…  https://scouting.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6Gp90QFpWs6O0y9

And when you receive the email request, please respond to it.

If you share this with other registered Scouters, which is fine, just ensure they follow the program as you will, so their feedback can be equally provided.  The deadline National has put on all councils is tomorrow Tuesday, August 15, 2017.  Again remember, there has not been any decision made, National truly want’s your opinion on the matter before they do.

In Scouting,

Matt Flanagan
Council Commissioner

California Inland Empire Council, BSA

Positive Quote & Poem
--------------------------------

"It is risky to order a boy not to do something, it immediately opens to him the adventure of doing it."
~Robert Baden-Powell

In Summer

Oh, summer has clothed the earth

In a cloak from the loom of the sun!

And a mantle, too, of the skies’ soft blue,

And a belt where the rivers run.

And now for the kiss of the wind,

And the touch of the air’s soft hands,

With the rest from strife and the heat of life,

With the freedom of lakes and lands.

Paul Laurence Dunbar, 1872 - 1906
