100th Anniversary Council Annual Dinner - Saluting our Volunteers!
Over 187 Scouters from all over the council enjoyed a great evening of fun and fellowship on Saturday, February 6th. A 25 year old time capsule provide by Provident Bank was opened and the contents shared. Everyone participated in the tenure countdown, the singing of patriotic songs lead by Ken Hedrick, the lighting of our anniversary cake and cupcakes and saluting all the award recipients.
Planning has begun for next year's Council Annual Dinner. Let us know what we can do better Click Here to View More Pics
Five Nations District Dinner
The 5 Nations District Dinner was a tremendous success! We had over 60 people in attendance. Bonnie Flickinger, Moreno Valley's Mayor, was in attendance and swore in the 2010 District Committee. We raised $326 dollars on our silent auction, which will be used for summer camp camperships for boys in the 5 Nations District. We also had a large number of raffle prizes which were handed out over the course of the dinner - over 40 of them! Our thanks to Moreno Valley Lowe's, Moreno Beach WalMart, Jason's Deli, Chili's, Round Table Pizza, Shakey's, and Acapulco's for their generous donations! Gordon Tabor, our 2009 District Chairman, received the "Golden Sparkplug Award" for his many years of service to scouting. Bob Gebo, our 2010 District Commissioner, received the James E. West Fellowship Award. One of our two District Award of Merit recipients, Chris Duwel, was present to accept his award. He is the Chairman for Troop 100 in Moreno Valley, and also the Boy Scout Round Table Commissioner, as well as a Unit Commissioner and a member of HAT. Our second recipient, Mike San Felipo, was on a campout with his unit, Troop 1776 of Moreno Valley. Mike is an Assistant Scout Master for 1776 as well as the 2009 OA Advisor for the Soboba Chapter of the Order of the Arrow. He will be the Ceremony Team Advisor for 2010. Both our recipients are very worthy of the award! The evening went very well, and most importantly, a good time was had by all!

City of Corona Proclamation
On the evening of February 3rd at its city council meeting, the city of Corona presented its proclamation recognizing February 8, 2010 as ?Boy Scouts of America Centennial Celebration Day.? The proclamation was received by members of Troops, Packs, and Crews from the Corona area who also presented the colors at the start of the meeting and conducted the Pledge of Allegiance. The event was carried live on local cable television and on the internet. Mayor Karen Spiegel presented the document to Roxanne Miller, who led the effort for the BSA Temescal District to procure proclamations from Corona, Norco, Chino, and Chino Hills as well as from the state senate and assembly, the governor, and even former First Lady Nancy Reagan. This initial phase of the district?s centennial celebration activities will conclude with Scout Sunday on February 7 in Norco at the Nellie Weaver Hall, where Scouts will conduct a service in reverence to this special day. On April 24 in recognition of Earth Day activities, Scouts will work with Waste Management and the National Forest Service to give back to their community in a large scale clean-up effort at the base of Skyline Drive at the foot of the Santa Ana Mountains. More activities will continue through the end of the year throughout the district.

MegaVersity 2010 Continuing the Journey
Fellow Scouters,
Due to the overwhelming over scheduling of many of our volunteers during this exciting and busy "100th Year of Scouting"- We have decided to postpone our annual Megaversity to the last part of the year and are looking at November 6, 2010 as a possible date. This gives us time to recover and rebound from all the great events happening in each district and council wide this year.
We are still in great need of Committee Members, Instructors and Vendors and possibly a location for Megaversity and are committed to making it the most anticipated event of the year. If you are able to lend a hand in this endeavor please contact me at the address below.

"Boy Scouts of America: Today" National Photo Contest Announced
In celebration of the Boy Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary, the BSA and licensee DK Publishing will produce a new photo book to document Scouting as it exists today. This book, Boy Scouts of America: Today, is scheduled to be released in October 2010 and will incorporate both professional and amateur photographs of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers engaged in activities that represent the 12 points of the Scout Law.
To support this book, the BSA is sponsoring the Boy Scouts of America: Today National Photo Contest. Eligible participants may enter the contest by submitting photographs in any or all of the 12 categories to visually depict the 12 points of the Scout Law-trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Winning entries will printed in the book Boy Scouts of America: Today, and the winning photographers will receive a copy of the book and a $50 gift card for official Scouting merchandise purchased through Scoutstuff.org or at any participating Scout shop. Employees of the Boy Scouts of America National Council or local councils, their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live), and persons living in the same households of such employees, regardless of relation, are not eligible to participate. A separate employee and family contest will launch soon. Read More

Temescal District Scout Sunday
On February 7, after months of planning and preparation, the Boy Scouts of America in the Temescal District held their Centennial Scout Sunday interfaith worship service at Nellie Weaver Hall in Norco. Attended by nearly 500 scouts and scouters, the goal of this service was to unite the district's members and families in their duty to "be reverent" and to commemorate our Centennial.
The program was conducted entirely by the scouts themselves with 29 youth members from packs, troops, teams and crews representing over 15 of Temescal's units presenting a portion of the program through readings or song. The opening procession of scouts, carrying their individual unit flags before taking the stage, was led into the hall by Troop 107 Life Scout and drummer Joshua Young. Scout Leader Keith Armbruster from Pack 421 and Troop 54 led the attendees in the closing hymn Amazing Grace with his bagpipes and, after the benediction by Life Scout Miles Persons, Hutuk Chapter Chief of Order of the Arrow, all members exited the stage in a quiet procession. The special nature of this commemorative event was felt by all, including California Inland Empire Council Executive Joe Daniszewski and his wife. Everyone came away with their own exceptional memories of an event that can come only once in a lifetime.
Following the service, refreshments were provided with donations by Tampico Beverages, Kraft Foods, and several of the district's scout units. The City of Norco graciously arranged use of the hall and sound system. The event was organized by Pack 421's Roxanne Miller, 2009 Temescal District Vice-Chair for Program, with the help of many scouters who pitched in with time, materials, and effort to add to the overall outcome. The next special BSA Centennial activity for 2010 for the Temescal District will be an Environmental Clean-up, in cooperation with Waste Management and the National Forest Service, on April 24 at the base of the Santa Ana Mountain range.
