Temescal District 3rd Annual Golf Tournament
The Temescal District 3rd Annual Golf Classic was held last Monday (May 9th) at the Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills. This annual Fundraiser is planned to be held Monday May 7th next year. The total number of Golfers participating totaled 72, up from the previous two years. It was a beautiful day but a little on the cool side. Check in was 10:30 a.m. with putting contests to keep the golfers active while they ate their lunch and readied for the 11:30 a.m. start time. MK Smith Chevrolet of Chino supplied a bright new red Camero as a prize to any golfer getting a hole-in-one on the 14th hole and Alvarez Jaguar supplied a white ZAP electric truck for a hole-in-one on the 6th hole. The last of the 18 foursomes arrived back at the clubhouse by 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Inside were several silent auction items to bid on as well as “live” auction items, which included some vacation getaways and a family portrait from Bradford Portraits worth $ 5,000. Prizes were handed out to the top three teams as well as for the earlier putting contests. The 3rd place team, from Tanaka Riley Architects, included our own Mike Riley from Troop 202 in Chino. 2nd place went to A.M.F.I. Inc and 1st place went to Don C. Gilmore and Associates. A big thank you to the volunteers and all of the units that contributed to the silent auction and had golfers participating to make this year’s tournament a success!
Thank You, George Anasis, Robert Camerota, Joe Fellin, Karla Hollenbeck, Suzette Romero and Doug Smith
Old Baldy Camporee
Old Baldy District's Camporee took place at Cucamonga~Guasti Regional Park in Ontario this past weekend, where 8 Troops and about 250 Scouts and Scouters enjoyed the 12 different
events hosted by the Troops Adult Leaders. Each event had First, Second, Third Place ribbons, as well as "Honorable Mention". The Patrol with the most First Place wins and points went
to the famous "Trail Mix" Patrol of Troop 652, Rancho Cucamonga. In additon to the games that were played, there was a "Best Gateway" competiton that Troop 608 of Upland took the
ribbon for, "Best Catapult" was won by Troop 614 of Upland, and the "Best Campsite" went to Troop 652 of Rancho Cucamonga. All 22 Patrols were awarded a "Participation Ribbon" as
well. There was also a "Dutch Oven Cook Off Throw Down" for the Adult Leaders. The winners for that were; Zaki Mustafa of Troop 655 for the "Main Dish" (Chicken, Vegetable & Rice)
category and Pete Peters of Troop 655 for the "Dessert" (Dump Cobbler, Peaches, Pineapple & Fruit Cocktail) entry. The campfire was wonderful, we had some skits, and awards to give
out. In addition, the Navajo Chapter had their Call-Out Ceremony where they had 35 Scouts and 5 Scouters called out for the Order of the Arrow. The first Ordeal is this weekend, May
220th and 21st up at Camp Helendade in Running Springs.
Overall, it was a great Camporee with great weather on Saturday, it did start to rain on Sunday morning, but at least it didn't rain on game day-Saturday!

Grayback District Troop 322
Scouts from Troop 322 in Beaumont found it necessary to use all of their snow mountaineering and orienteering skills to successfully complete a climb to the summit of Mt. Baden-Powell on May 1st.
Ten Scouts and six leaders made the ascent, cross-country, across heavy snowfields, which obscured the trail. Stiff winds and late afternoon icy snow conditions made the descent equally challenging. For two of the Scouts it was their very first hike. One of them, Dakota W., called the trip “Awesome!” The Troop chose to tackle the climb under snow conditions to gain experience for anticipated similar conditions on their High Sierra Trek next month.
“It is two very different hikes, with and without snow,” stated Scoutmaster, Steven Pesante who hiked the same trail in July 2009.
At the 9399 ft. summit the Scouts found the memorial marker to Lord Baden-Powell half buried in the snow. The Troop sang Scout Vespers before descending.
