Positive Prayer

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, Who abide in His shadow for life, Say to the Lord, "My Refuge, My Rock in Whom I trust."

And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand. The snare of the fowler will never capture you, And famine will bring you no fear; Under His Wings your refuge, His faithfulness your shield.

And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand. You need not fear the terror of the night, Nor the arrow that flies by day, Though thousands fall about you, Near you it shall not come.

And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand. For to His angels He's given a command, To guard you in all of your ways, Upon their hands they will bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand. And hold you in the palm of His Hand.

Cub Scout Community Service Event

Saturday, April 25th the boys from Cub Scout Pack 29 planted much needed trees at Avalon Park in Rubidoux. They also painted the graffiti on the gymnasium, trimmed some trees and repainted the baseball backstop, benches and bleachers. A couple of our Boy Scout Den Chief's in the pictures are from Troop 270 and 2 and helped manage the operation.

High Desert District Camporee

This was a beautiful weekend at Horseman’s Center Park in Apple Valley for the High Desert District to learn “How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse”.   In true competitive fashion scouts had to Triage First Aid Victims, build torches using flint and steel and dryer lint, move hazardous waste, set up a zombie fortress (campsite competition), cook in a post-apocalyptic world (Dutch oven contest), use their strength (tug-o-war), show their Zombie knowledge (zombie quiz),  target zombies (dodgeball), learn how to flee zombies (obstacle course) and entertain themselves without electronics (skits).  The closing campfire had an Order of the Arrow Callout and a giant flag retirement as well.

Troop 725 survived the Zombie Apocalypse by winning in our day of competition and Troop 357 wont the spirit award for ‘zombifying’ their campsite and scouts.  Troop 257 will be well fed in an apocalypse as they swept the Dutch Oven Cooking competition judged by the Victor Valley 4Wheelers who brought out their Jeeps in a demonstration which proved that a 4wheel drive Jeep is the official vehicle of a Zombie Attack.

Scoutmaster Rick Cales and Troop 257 did a wonderful job of putting on the best camporee in years and we are looking forward to next year’s event.  Thanks to all the units who participated and the scoutmasters and parents who helped make this a fun weekend.

Sunrise District Cub Scout Day Camp

The Sunrise District of CIEC held its Cub Scout Day Camp on Saturday, May 18th, 2013. The camp was held in Desert Hot Springs at the Desert Hot Springs LDS Ward Building. Camp was attended by 63 Cubbies from all around the District. Activities included Archery, Wrist Rockets, Be Prepared, Basketball, making mini First-Aid kits, Citizenship (lead by our very own James Styczynski), Sponge Toss, and a very special Service Project writing letters and making cards for our All-American Heroes serving our Country overseas. We would like to send a Giant THANK YOU to all the Adults that volunteered their Saturday to make this Day Camp a success.

BSA Racing: Let’s Accelerate the Adventure All the Way to the 2013 Indy 500!

It is that time of year again, and we are excited to highlight one of our most visible months in Scouting—Indy 500 month. Three years ago, BSA Racing made a huge impact on the national stage during one of the most watched sporting events in the world. That year, Alex Lloyd, the first BSA racing team driver, competed in what can simply be called one of the best drives in Indy 500 history. Starting at the middle of the pack, Alex finished the 500-mile race in fourth place, the best finish ever in the more than 25-year history of Dale Coyne Racing (DCR). A blend of great driver skill and outstanding pit strategy allowed DCR, one of the smaller and less well-financed teams in the INDYCAR Series, to topple some of the biggest names and teams in the sport; or some might say it was the magic of the 100th anniversary celebration that fueled the historic performance. Either way, this effort was watched by nearly 300,000 spectators and several millions more worldwide, but equally important is that Scouts and Scouters from far and wide witnessed the BSA Racing team compete with skill, determination, and teamwork.

This month, we are excited that our 2013 season driver, Justin Wilson, is poised to represent BSA Racing on the biggest stage in sports. The 2013 Indy 500 is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in history and our driver has been one of the better drivers this year. Justin, after a great podium finish in Long Beach and an awesome top 10 showing in Brazil, is back in the heartland of America to represent Scouting’s nearly 5 million current members and nearly 50 million living alumni. This platform continues to be one of the most visible for the BSA, and its science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) elements inspire youth to learn more about the sciences in a cool and exciting way. The BSA racing program impacts our organization like no other, and we continue to benefit from the positive national exposure and the high-level corporate connections this relationship provides.

Just like in years past, make sure you spread the word and tune in to ABC on Sunday, May 26, to watch the Indy 500 and cheer for the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America car, driven by superstar driver Justin Wilson. Also visit www.INDYCAR.com to stay in the loop on all the exciting activities leading up to the historic 2013 Indy 500! For more information on this program, please visit www.scouting.org/motorsports.aspx. If you would like to know more about some of our exciting corporate alliances sponsorships, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at corporate.alliances@scouting.org. We would love to hear from you.

Son of Redlands Mayor Pro Tem Paul Foster dies at age 24

Greg Cappis, Staff Writer redlandsdailyfacts.com

Nicholas Chase Bornholdt had a promising future before his unexpected death May 10 in Philadelphia.
The 24-year-old son of Mayor Pro Tem Paul Foster and wife Juli was walking home from a dinner with friends, celebrating the end of a successful semester at Drexel University when he tripped and landed on a curb. The blunt force trauma lacerated his liver, and he went into cardiac arrest, Foster said. He was brought back, but the bleeding was unable to be stopped and he died in the early hours of the morning on Friday, according to Foster.

"He was a pretty happy guy," Foster said. "If he had to be called home, he was happy when he left this world. "

Bornholdt was scheduled to leave Philadelphia and return home to the Inland Empire the day he died. He had a flight to Ontario to surprise his mother, Juli, for Mother's Day and attend a graduation ceremony for his girlfriend of three years. She will be receiving a master's in social work from the University of Southern California on May 17, according to Foster. Read More.....
