Monday Memo

Joseph Daniszewski
Scout Executive

Good day and welcome to our May 26th Monday Memo

1. Local Boy Scouts plan to Rebuild Scout Camp after Fire Devastates Camp
Boy Scouts of the Inland Empire have been going to Camp Helendade, a local scout camp located in the mountains by Running Springs, since 1961 to learn camping and nature skills. However in October of 2007, the camp was silenced of the sounds of hundreds of scouts when a fire, known as the Slide, fire burned right through camp.

During the fires that devastated our local mountains in recent years, the Slide fire burned the camp?s Nature lodge, Handicraft/Sports Lodge, Storage Garage, and the recently completed Pool house and Class room facility down to the ground.

For 2 years, the California Inland Empire Council has been trying to gather the necessary funds and materials to rebuild the camp, but have been unable to acquire these to start the rebuilding process.

Finally, this summer the camp will come back alive but will unfortunately be lacking some very necessary facilities. The scouts are hosting a barnraising event to rebuild part of the pool house with materials that the camp director has been able to scrape together. The work weekends will be May 30th and 31st, June 6th and 7th, and June 13th and 14th. If you would like to sign up your unit Click Here to register!

If you have carpentry/electrical/plumbing skills or would just like to help or would like to donate funds or materials to help rebuild Camp Helendade for the Boy Scouts of the Inland Empire, please contact Larry Agre at (909) 557-5616.

Thank you to Jay Brown Construction, who has donated their skills to lead the framing operation.

2. Eagle Scout Wall Of Honor Available For Viewing At Council Headquarters
Visit the Eagle Scout Wall of Honor at the CIEC Service Center, to see the Eagle Scouts who achieved Scouting's highest honor during the last year. The Eagle Scout Honor Wall is located in the hallway to the right of the Scout Shop.

When your son achieves Eagle Scout rank, make sure he takes his place on the wall. Have his portrait created during one of the quarterly portrait sessions held at the Council.

Portrait studio Gradportraits.com is on-site four times per year to help celebrate your son's achievement. You may also go to their studio. To sign-up, go on-line to  www.gradportraits.com  or call 562-596-8999 and make an appointment for their next session. If you need your portraits soon you may visit them in their studio.
