It is the award and knot I hold most dear to my heart out of all awards I have received thus far. Working with the youth with challenges, including my two young sons, is my passion and purpose in the Scouting realm.” Congratulations Heidi ! | | Camp Emerson 100th Anniversary | | In the late 1960s, Camp Emerson, Idyllwild, had a lot to celebrate: Native American heritage (1967), a new lake (1968), the BEAR totem (1969), and of course, the Legend of Tahquitz (1969 Staff patch). To a desert boy like this writer, driving up the hill to Idyllwild and lowering the summer heat by 15 to 30 degrees was really . . . cool. And fun. And exciting. In 2014 my out-of-Council Troop went to Emerson. The Scouts in Troop 776 earned more merit badges per boy there in one week than they have at any other BSA camp; even Space Exploration. The Mission of the Camp Emerson 100th Anniversary Committee is to honor and celebrate the land, the history and the people, past and present.
