3. CubScout Rank Crossover Weekend

Pack 257's, Committee would like to thank the following groups for assisting us in our Cubscout Rank Crossover Weekend.  Crew 157 under the advisment of Earl and Cassie Allen, Crew 800 (Mr. Robert Morgan), and Troop 257 with Scoutmaster Tom Cherry.  This event is a highlight every year within our Pack where we gather for a weekend full of activities and Scouting Fellowship.  This year in coincidence with the Scout theme  "Camping We Will Go" we had the honor of having these excellent Boy Scouts and Venturers participate with us.

Our event started Friday evening with check in at 5 PM, followed by a campfire where the we had multiple boys earn Cubscout Ranks and the Pack Committee performing skits for all those in attendance.  We had well over 150 people camping till Sunday with us at Horseman's Center Park in Apple Valley, CA.

Saturday's main events included a round robin of activities from First Aid, Smore's, Campsite Building and a variety of water activities.  However, the highlight of the whole event for all was Rock Climbing hosted by Crew 157 and Crew 800.  The boys had the opportunity to truly taste what Boy Scouts and Scouting has to offer.  Mr. Earl Allen and his Wife did an amazing job instructing the boys and helping them reach the top.  Attached is a picture of my son Tyler climbing.   Saturday's evening consisted of a Flag Retirment Ceremony where both Crews and Boy Scouts assisted in retiring three United States Flags.  The campfire also presented a variety of skits performed by the boys which was priceless.

Sunday to finalize our yearly event, we offered two hikes, a shorter 3/4 mile hike for Tigers and all others, with a 3-Mile hike for our designed for our incoming Webelos and all others.  A Scouts Own service was offered for the boys and any whom wished to participate.  The event closed on Sunday at 1 PM.

Once again all from Pack 257's Pack Committee, we want to thank Crew 800, Crew 157 and Troop 257 for assiting us.  I have posted a thank you on CIEC Venturing Facebook site, and on Snakepower Facebook site also.  As soon as I have additional pictures of our event I will post there for those to see.

7. Forget the June Gloom - It's Jacaranda Time!

As our family settles into the Inland Empire, we really enjoy the beauty of the Jacaranda tree. Its lavender blossoms are truly spectacular and brighten up the landscape. According to Wikipedia, the jacaranda is a native of South and Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and India. Just as this tree has become popular in Southern California, it has also been transplanted to South Africa where Pretoria is popularly known as the Jacaranda City. Enjoy the rest of June gloom!
