Monday Memo

Joseph Daniszewski
Scout Executive

Good day and welcome to our July 12th, 2010 Monday Memo

BSA-100 Mission Statement and Goals

The Mission: Is to have “FUN” and celebrate the Boy Scouts of America’s presence for the last 100 years in our great Nation, at the same time showing that we are ready to continue into the next 100 with the same morals and values that were set forth in the beginning, the year 1910’ by our founders. The key factor in Scouting is FUN and that is what we intend to do . . . have lots of it at the BSA -100

The Theme: “WHEELS” Because we Scouts are always on the “GO” doing great things, from service to the community to helping others. Our rules and regulations are guided by one little saying “ The Scout Oath “ it is so simple and basic but at the same time so complex and true to a moral and good way of living your life. May the Wheels of Scouting keep turning our youth into both great leaders and the finest of young adults always following their heart, values, dreams, & the ideals of Scouting

The Goals:

  • # 1 is to have a great FUN birthday party celebration.
  • To expose the 100th anniversary of Scouting to the community.
  • To recruit new Scouts of all ages and show what FUN scouting really is.
  • To re-introduce the Scouting community to BSA history, 100 years of it.
  • To show the Scouting community what lies in the future of Scouting.
  • To say thanks to all the parents and volunteers through the years, that have made scouting happen.
  • To recognize all the Scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
  • To thank all of our heroes for their service to America and gives us the freedom to have a program like Scouting.
  • Fellowship and old friendships rekindled.   (Troop reunions maybe?)
  • Show off good old Scout Spirit and to get as many Scouts, possible new Scouts, and Scouters as we all can to this great historical event.

This party is for all aspects of Scouting everyone is invited to celebrate 100 years of a great thing in the lives of many young men & women . . . & old guys & gals too . . . See Ya there!

Cub Scout Pack 210 of Moreno Valley win Sweepstakes Trophy

Cub Scout Pack 210 of Moreno Valley wins top honors at the Moreno Valley 4th of July Parade. Moreno Valley's top Pack "210" took home the Sweepstakes trophy during the annual 4th of July celebration. The theme for the event was "America Come Together", and what better way to show American's coming together then Scouting.

This year Pack 210 had over 30 scouts walking, riding scooters or bikes along with a float that had coming together events like camping with a tent and roasting marshmallows next to a campfire, BBQing next to the pool and of coarse having Abraham Lincon, Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, Uncle Sam, and the Statue of Liberty to show the true spirit of "America Come Together".

We had Girls scouts and Boy scouts help in the celebrations as they all went down the parade route tossing candy to the crowds and handing special gifts for the special needs people in wheelchairs along the parade. Families coming along side, helped the scouts maneuver down the parade. A fun event for everyone with over 70 people going down the parade route.

Mt. Rubidoux District July 4th Ceremony

Troop 90 had 3 boy scouts (Richard E. Smith V, Justin Glenn and Mathew DeLuna)
Pack 97 had 6 cub scouts (Jacob Smith, Sammy Hallenberg, Wyatt Reiter, Jeffrey Peters-(Webelos 1), Daniel Glenn- (Bear), Collin Peters- (Tiger)

These boys did a flag folding ceremony for a church (Bethel Christian) on the forth of July for 2 seperate church programs to honor the Military Men, Women and our Country, they were AWESOME! I have never seen anything like it, the audience was in awwww............

Yours in Scouting, Malissa Smith

Flag Retirement

Troop 19 of the Grayback District held our 11th annual flag retirement on June 14th at the Toyota of Redlands dealership, our new charter organization, in Redlands. The general public was invited through newspaper stories and BSA scouting units in the Grayback district were also invited to attend.

Approximate 50 people were present for our troop's Flag Day flag retirement ceremony. Previously flag retirement ceremonies were at the Inland Fish and Game Conservation Association in Highland.  In total, 76 flags of all sizes from 3x5 inches all the way up to 5 x 8 foot in size were retired.  These flags had flown proudly over Post Offices, CHP Offices and local Banks, as well as, various other locations.  Several scouts brought flags with them to retire at the event.

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts started the ceremony by adding ashes to the fire from thousands of other flags retired in previous flag retirement ceremonies over the years.  In all approximately 30 scouts were involved in the flag retirement along with Veterans and active duty personnel.

Due to the number of flags to be retired, the ceremony also allowed scouts to join their parents and grandparents in the act of retiring flags which created many special memories for all involved.

Richard Endsley, Scoutmaster, Troop 19
