Good day and welcome to our July 6th Monday Memo

1. Have you had a chance lately to spend sometime in the great outdoors with some of our scouts?

Watching our young men and women have fun and learn under the blue sky, golden sun and the tall pine trees is a real treat. We are blessed to have so many great camps like the Boseker Scout Reservation and Camp Helendade.

Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers look forward to "hot fun in the summertime!" They thrive in the outdoors. The more hikes, fields trips, campouts, Boy Scout Summer Camp, Cub Scout Camp Wiley, Cub Scout Day Camp, Wisumahi, Transition, National Youth Leader Training - Buckskin and  Foxfire the better! Scouts advance more, learn more and grow more in the outdoors.

You, our volunteer adult leaders, all 7,626 of you, do your best to deliver a quality program to over 1,014 packs, troops, teams and crews. As mentors, you lead by example; you make the daily and weekly sacrifices to make a difference in the lives of our youth. Scouting works because you make it work. Your constant care and concern are inspirational.

2. Our Nation's birthday and Words to Live By!

I hope you all had an enjoyable 4th of July!  My family and I travelled to the Palm Springs Air Museum and explored some of the beautiful beaches of Southern California. I counted my blessings as an American and  recalled some of the most quoted words from our Declartion of Independence:

  " We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. "

 " And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor. "

Did you know that our Declartion of Independence has 1337 words? These words changed history.

There is another statement that has had quite an impact as well: The Scout Oath and Law. Did you know that the Scout Oath has 40 words and that the Scout Law has 12 points?

3. Scouting for Adventure

Premiering July 1, 2009
Season Two

July 1 marks the return of Scouting for Adventure, an original television series based on the Boy Scouts of America and its flagship magazine, Boys' Life. This high-adventure show targets young outdoorsmen teaching wilderness skills with an emphasis on safety and team-building.

In the show's second year, Scouting for Adventure promises to continue the tradition of top-notch television production, shot in high-definition that motivates, educates, and inspires both young and young-at-heart. Each action-packed episode features short segments that pertain to all aspects of Scouting, such as merit badges, safety, gear, and knots. Whether it's learning how to tie a square knot at Creighton Island, Ga., or emphasizing the importance of beach conservation (utilizing Leave No Trace) on Catalina Island, Calif., each episode offers practical advice for all past, present, and future Scouts.

All-new episodes in 2009 feature Scouts canoeing in California, horseback riding in Nevada, and snowshoeing in Minnesota. From trail to riverbed, beach to mountaintop, Scouting for Adventure features some of the country's finest young men displaying all the characteristics and qualities that define Scouting.

5. Local Scouts in News! Boy Scouts beautify Thompson Middle School

MURRIETA ---- Jabbing a shovel into the dirt surrounding a potted plant, Carlos Gonzales showed seven boys how to dig the right-sized hole, blend fertilizer with soil, drop the plant in the ground and pat the surface to smooth uneven dirt.

"This is why you wear work shoes," Gonzales said as he stepped on a shovel.

6. FOS Report

Congratulations to our Scoutreach Division and Tony Hayes for achieving 103.7% of their goal! Mt. Rubioux and Jim Nelson are knocking at the door with 97% of their goal achieved. Many thanks to all our workers! Charge!!!
