Monday Memo

Joseph Daniszewski
Scout Executive

Good day and welcome to our August 2nd, 2010 Monday Memo

Council President Jim Prior visits Scoutmasters at Camp Emerson on July 31st

Eagle Scout Projects Available

Living Free Animal Sanctuary would like to extend an invitation to all Scouts looking for projects worthy of Eagle grade.

We are a nonprofit donor supported, no-kill, cat and dog rescue located in the heart of Riverside County, high up in the San Jacinto Mountains, in Mountain Center.  Living Free's mission is to rescue cats and dogs slated for euthanasia in public shelters and find them forever loving homes. Each project we've identified helps make life better for our rescued cats and dogs while they reside with us until they're adopted to new families.

For each completed project Living Free will mount a plaque with the Scouts name, date, and troop number in dedication to their achievement. We will also include a posting on our web site with photo and details of the project, along with submission of press releases to local newspapers.

For more information and details on several projects we have available, visit our web site at www.living-free.org and follow the "How To Help" navigation to Volunteer / Boy Scout Eagle Projects.

We invite you to visit Living Free for a tour of our 153 acre facility.  Please contact me if you have any additional questions. On behalf of all our rescued cats and dogs, we thank you for considering Living Free Animal Sanctuary for your Eagle Scout projects.

Boy Scouts Seek a Way to Rebuild Ranks

FORT A.P. HILL, Va. — Her crown glinting in the morning sun, Miss America was telling 45,000 Boy Scouts and their leaders the other day how thrilled she was to be here at the National Scout Jamboree, to be among “the most amazing young women ...”

Whoops! The scouts, ever courteous and kind, could nonetheless barely stifle a collective groan. Some covered their faces in embarrassment. Miss America — Caressa Cameron, the former Miss Virginia — quickly recovered, apologized and explained that she usually speaks to groups of young women.

The slip was an inadvertent reminder of a host of issues, including whether to admit girls, that the Boy Scouts of America faces this year as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.
