| California Inland Empire Council Monday Memo | | Welcome to our August 8th, 2011 Monday Memo |
Simple Tools Help New Cub Scout, Parents Because keeping up the excitement of new Cub Scouts and their parents between sign-up night and their first pack meeting is so important to a pack’s success, the BSA has developed some new, easy-to-access resources to help maintain those peak interest levels. Targeting new Cub Scout parents and newly recruited den leaders, these resources include a page on the BeAScout.org website (beascout.scouting.org/welcome.aspx, or the Spanish version, beascout.scouting.org/bienvenidos.aspx) that features a fun video highlighting Scouting in action and two simple information tab choices: “I am a new Cub Scout parent” and “I volunteered to be a new Cub Scout den leader.” Parents can choose to investigate one or both tabs, where they will find basic information and answers to their most common questions. If they want still more information, they will be invited to explore Scouting.org. A bilingual (English and Spanish) postcard is available to help guide parents to this wealth of online information. | |
Crew 604 Beaver High Adventure Camp
Crew 604 spent an exciting week at BHAC in Utah. Together we went geocaching, white water rafting, went bouldering and rappelled down a 65 foot cliff, completed both a low and high COPE course, and spent a great day on horseback completing most of the requirements for the Venture Equestrian elective. The weather was great with highs in the 70's and lows at night in the 40's. If you are looking for a great high adventure trip for your Venture group, look into this camp. Staff was great and worked with us to help all our crew complete everything!
Beverly Gruendner, Crew 604 Sell Popcorn Online and Get Cool Rewards A fun, easy and rewarding way for Scouts to sell popcorn is online!
Selling popcorn online is a great way to have friends and family who live faraway to support their favorite Scout.
It's Easy - Have the Scout visit www.trails-end.com/Scout and click on Send Emails. With their parent's permission they can create an account.
It's Fun - Once an online selling account is set-up, the Scout creates an avatar that he can use in emails to his family and friends. They can then visit www.Trails-End.com and make some delicious purchases.
It's Rewarding - All online sales from August 1st through October 21st count towards their Fall Sale Rewards. Plus Scouts can earn other cool rewards by selling throughout the year.
Go to www.trails-end.com/Scouts to create a online selling account. Trail's End Popcorn Kickoffs! Don't miss out on the fun and profit of the popcorn sale. Sign up today! Summit Corps "On July 16, 2011 three brave souls from Wanakik (and one from Navajo) embarked on a perilous journey to build trails leading to The Summit in West Virginia. They weaved their way through Carmagedon terrified at the sight of trafficless LA freeways. Were forced to survive on airline peanuts, pretzels, Coca-Cola Products, a layover in Atlanta and McDonalds to make it to New Gorge National Park, West Virginia. While there, crews worked in record breaking heat (91-101 degrees F), 80-100% humidity and Philmont trail food to create the first Moutain Bike trail system in any National Park. They lived through pioneer clearing, hornet's nests, rock moving, and one bad lightening storm (Camp was evacuated). All along showing why "Snakepower" can outwork the Cog (Wiatava was our traveling buddies). The trip home found them up at 5am (2 am in California) scrambling to clean-up tents and make a flight to Detroit. They returned to California victorious on July 23rd to 79 degrees F with 63% humidity. AHHH it was nice. Good job Ian, Seth, Jared, and Summer. You made the Wanakik (and Navajo) chapter proud." P.S. Thanks Ken for hauling our gear. Fall Wood Badge As of this morning, we are 18 days from the opening Gilwell Field assembly for the fall Wood Badge. Although the course is presently full, we expect some participants to cancel due to changes in their personal lives. If you would like to sign-up for course, please contact Gail Nichols at (909) 793-2463, extension 129. If you pay the course fee of $240 in full, you will secure a higher position on the standby list than if you register and do not pay. If you sign up and do not get to attend, you may choose to roll over your registration to either the spring or fall courses next year.
The first weekend is August 26-28 and the second weekend is September 9-11. Check-in begins at 0730 on Friday, 26th. You must be present at all six days to complete the course.
