The goal is to signal as many peaks as possible; and this year for the 100 Years of Scouting in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the goal was to signal to various LDS temples. Saturday we had teams and crews upon several peaks and at the Redlands Temple. The mountain tops stood above the clouds that covered the valley floor with only a break in the clouds over the temple. We had teams and crews that climbed or drove to San Gorgonio, Keller Peak, San Bernardino Peak, San Jacinto Peak, Palomar, and the Redlands Temple. Since the goal was to send a signal to all the peaks and the temple; we are happy to say we met our goal. All the units that took part were rewarded for their efforts by hiking in our local mountains and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. A Team on San Gorgonio signaled a Team on Hayden Peak (over 179 miles) just north of Flagstaff, Arizona again this year but they did not see the return signal from Hayden. Last September the same two teams set the new distance signaling record for Operation “On-Target” of just over 179 miles at Hayden Peak. The old record was set in the 1980’s from Mt Charleston, Nevada to San Jacinto Peak, which was just over 178 miles.
