Murrieta Eagle Scouts Selected to March on 2010 Rose Parade!

The year 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, and they are celebrating the Anniversary with a commemorative float in the 2010 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. The theme for the float is ?Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey?. The 2010 Rose Parade, is the 121st Rose Parade, and it has been chosen as the official kick off to the Boy Scouts of America 100th anniversary celebration.

Cameron Locke and Brandon Chavez, from Murrieta Boy Scout Troop 304, both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2009, and will be among the 300 Eagle Scouts that were selected to participate in the 2010 Rose Parade on New Year?s Day 2010. There were only three Eagle

Scouts that were selected from the BSA Inland Empire Council. Cameron and Brandon, along with the other Eagle Scouts that were considered to participate in this celebration, were required to submit a personal profile, and to go through an in-depth interview process.

The 2010 Tournament of Roses Parade troop is appropriately named, Troop 2010. Cameron, Brandon, and the other members of Troop 2010, will be walking the entire 5.5 mile parade route in full uniform right next to the 2010 BSA Rose Parade Float.

Look for Brandon and Cameron and Troop 2010 on New Year?s Day!

Ringing In The New Year Like Never Before

At last, 2010 has arrived! A year to be filled with excitement, energy, and celebration across America?starting from day one. But before we jump into 2010, a quick ?thank you? for all of your hard work throughout 2009. It was an incredible year for the BSA. More than 23,000 reconnected Scouting alumni, 8,000 Year of Celebration ribbons, 2,000 Hall of Leadership nominations, 10,000 scheduled tree plantings ? and that was just our warm-up!

Now, on to 2010. For the first time in 60 years, the BSA will join the Tournament of Roses Parade with a float entitled: ?Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey.? Keeping with the parade theme, ?A Cut Above The Rest,? more than 300 Eagle Scouts will march beside the adventure-filled float that features Scouts camping, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and enjoying the thrill of flying along a zip line. Go online after the parade to vote the BSA float #1 in the KTLA viewer?s choice poll. Immediately following the parade, the BSA will begin its nationwide Adventure Base 1OO tour. You can check out the virtual tour online now!

The Rose Parade may be our first of the year, but it?s certainly not the last. In fact, it?s not even the only one on New Year?s Day! Scouts in Dallas will march in the Comerica Bank New Year?s Parade, welcoming a crowd of thousands with thousands more watching on TV. On July 25, 2010, every council in America will be invited to kick-start the 2010 National Scout Jamboree by marching in the Grand Centennial Parade through Washington, DC. More information, including contact information for the National Capital Area Council, can be found on the parade fact sheet.

So, tune in on New Year?s Day ? and throughout 2010. It?s going to be an amazing year for Scouting. I?m glad you?re here to share in it. Together, launching Scouting?s next century of service!

Celebrating 100 Years - A Year of Celebration

For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of America's youth. Through A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference, we will demonstrate the incredible impact of a century of living the Scout Law.

Program participants will earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting's core values: Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement, and the Outdoors. Through that commitment, participants can earn each of five award ribbons to display from our 100th Anniversary commemorative patch.

A Year of Celebration will take place from September 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010. The program is open to all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, adult leaders, and Scouting alumni. Read the patch requirements to learn more.

FINISHED WITH RIBBON REQUIREMENTS? ORDER YOUR YEAR OF CELEBRATION AWARDS. Please note: Ribbon requirements are entered online, but you must take your order form to a Scout Shop to purchase the awards. To find the Scout Shop nearest you, contact your BSA local council. Scout Shops can often accommodate orders by phone.

You can also download the patch requirements by group:
