It's in a great neighborhood, has more parking and the Scout Shop is 60% larger! To get to the new Scout Center, from Interstate 10, exit at Central Avenue then go north to the Arrow Highway. Then travel West approximately 1 mile. The Montclair Business Center is located just past the Montclair Police Station on the North side of the street. With the new location will come new hours for the Old Baldy Scout Shop. Monday-Friday 9AM TO 6PM, Saturday 9AM TO 3PM, CLOSED SUNDAY The new phone number for the Old Baldy Scout Center will be (909) 625-4534 Cinco De Mayo Merit Badge Clinic There are lots of unique ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. How about a Merit Badge Clinic for 200 Boy Scouts? On May 5, the Corona and Chino LDS Stakes joined with the Temescal District to provide a Merit Badge Clinic offering 15 different Merit Badges in 28 different classes. Approximately 200 Boy Scouts attended from dozens of troops in 5 different Districts. Scouts were introduced to their Merit Badge Counselor, started work on the Merit Badge, were given specific assignments for completing the Merit Badge and a partial Blue Card. The Clinic Coordinator, Robert Cornejo, said “the purpose of the Clinic is not to serve as a ‘Merit Badge Mill.’ Rather we want to get boys started on a Merit Badge, develop a relationship with the Merit Badge Counselor and give very specific instructions regarding what they will need to do on their own to truly ‘earn’ the Merit Badge.” Approximately 750 Merit Badges were started during the day. But for many of the boys the highlight may have been the free pizza lunch where 100 pizzas and 30 gallons of lemonade were consumed in less than 20 minutes! If only there was a pizza eating Merit Badge! | | 2012 Concert For Heroes - FREE A Tribute to Veterans: An annual event for southern californians. This project was just completed by Devin Persons of Corona Troop 107. The project was a request from the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area and Nature Center in Riverside to add to the two Native American Kish Huts that were currently there. The Arbor is a replica of a structure used for the working area for the local Native American tribe called the Tongva that lived along the Santa Ana River basin. The Tongva would build the structure with tree branches lashed together and covered with leaves and branches from the nearby river bank. To make a long lasting replica the structure was built with wooden posts lashed together with the leaves placed on top. The leaves were cut from the nearby river bank just as when the original inhabitants lived here. Volunteers from Troop 107, the Corona High School JROTC program and family members all helped with the construction. The Arbor was placed in an area to help accent the Two Kish Huts already there. The Arbor will be a cornerstone for educational tours of a full village depicting life as a Tongva tribe member. Still needed to complete the village is, a grinding stone, cooking area and ceremonial dance circle. Tours can be conducted six days a week for local school and nature groups to understand the local wildlife and plants. Now they will be able to learn more about the original inhabitants. Hidden Valley Wildlife Area has a list of available Eagle Scout projects that will continue to improve the quality of the tours they conduct for local youth. Calling All Venturers! Fall Wood Badge is looking for about 10 Crew members to round out our staff. Our experience has shown that Venturing involvement not only increases adult appreciation for the program, but for many is their first contact with it. We need you for the following times: Saturday July 28th - 7:30-11:00 AM - Norco - Staff Development - You will run through the Venturing Round Robin games with the staff to practice and prepare for the Course. Thursday September 6th (6:00 pm) through Saturday, September 8th (Noon) - Camp Emerson - You will camp as a Crew, demonstrate a model campsite, teach Leave No Trace Principles, facilitate a Venturer “Round Robin” outdoor/game experience, participate in a conservation project, and support the Wood Badge experience of individuals within specific patrols. Crew members always have a great time staffing the course and our participants mention the Venturing experience as a highlight of the course. Join us to be a part of this great adventure! Contact Michael Poore, our Venturing Advisor, for more information and to join up: mlpoore919@gmail.com Cell - (951) 415-1363 Are You Tougher Than A Boy Scout You've heard of the new National Geographic TV show"Are You Tougher Than A Boy Scout", but did you know that one of our CIEC scouts was selected to appear in all six episodes? The other Scouts rotate according to which Scout skill is featured, only two Scouts were chosen to appear in all six shows. Eagle Scout Rio Gifford (pictured in middle) is from Troop 3 in the Grayback District. He has already filmed three episodes at Camp Whitsett and will be filming another one this week. Experienced in speaking, Speech Team at Redlands High School, Rio does most of the narrative speaking, assists with the hosting & competes in many of the challenges. Rio is very honored & proud to be representing BSA.One highlight was meeting BSA National Director Steve Medlicott who came to visit the production. Rio is not allowed to discuss details of the production at this point, but he would be happy to talk to everybody about the general experience. After the show is on TV in the Fall, he can talk about it freely. Congratulations Rio! | | New Cub Scout Lesson Plans Introduced Help deliver the promise with the new Alternative Cub Scout Lesson Plans Manual: Year B (please note: huge PDF file, will take a while to download). This follow-up manual to Year A consists of the traditional Cub Scout program and can be delivered by volunteers and program managers. The easy-to-use guide is suited for mixed-age packs/dens and guarantees rank advancement for each Cub Scout. Scouting Legacies Honored Cub Scout Pack 34 of Corona United Methodist Church and guest scouts from Pack 90, honored Scouts at a ceremony held July 1, 2012. Girl Scouts were given a corsage recognizing the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts, and they recited the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Elaine Douglas, a former Cub Scout Den Mother, was recognized for her service. She wore a vintage Den Mother blouse, hat and pin for the ceremony. Ten men from the church were recognized for their long-time dedication to Boy Scouts. Among those present included COR Jim Schick, and Joseph “Doug” Douglas who began as a Boy Scout in 1934 at the age of 12 and continued his Scouting career as a Troop Leader for many years. Also present was Ed Luekemeyer who displayed his many awards from 50 years of Scouting, including his uniform shirt loaded with BSA knots, his Boy Scout sash with 92 merit badges, his Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope and Silver Buffalo Awards. Mr. Luekemeyer remarked that he became a leader in Boy Scouts hoping to keep at least one boy out of trouble. He has helped nearly 50 boys become Eagle Scouts. Assistant Cubmaster Brian Park gave opening remarks and then a recommitment oath was led by Cubmaster Brian Fogle, followed by the Boy Scout Oath and Law. Neckerchiefs and slides were presented to the Scouting Legacies by the Cub Scouts (however, we didn’t account enough for the height difference and all present chuckled when the young Scouts tried to jump and reach the shoulders of the men). The goal of recognizing legacies is to help unite generations through Scouting. The new pack has already held three events to help foster and unite the Scouters of CUMC with the new Cub Scouts and their families. Other events included a Welcome the Scouts BBQ and a campfire where the Douglas’ and Mr. John Bice, 90, shared stories of their Scouting memories. Susan Park, Committee Chairman and New Unit Organizer remarked what an overwhelming spirit for Scouting this church membership holds, and what an honor it is to have been asked to re-establish their Scouting program. The newly chartered Cub Scout Pack follows in the footsteps of a more than 80 year history of Boy Scout Troop 34, sponsored by the Methodist Men. In the words of Mr. Luekemeyer, “these young boys are the seeds to the future.” And what an exciting harvest it will be. Lowe's National Eagle Scout Project Impact Grant Home improvement retailer Lowe's has teamed with the Boy Scouts of America to provide the Lowe's National Eagle Scout Project Impact grant for candidates working on their Eagle Scout project. About the Grant A generous contribution from the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation has made it possible for the council to present selected Eagle Scout candidates with a $100 prepaid gift card to be used toward their service projects. Life Scouts who are planning a construction-based project may apply. The council Eagle project review board will determine which projects qualify for a Lowe's grant. A total of 68 grants will be awarded. After the project review is completed, the council will distribute the $100 prepaid gift cards to recipients. Cards must be used to purchase building materials and equipment for the Eagle candidate's service project. The gift card may be used at any Lowe's location or any place that it is accepted. Qualifications To qualify for a Lowe's National Eagle Scout Project Impact grant, the individual must - Be a registered Life Scout.

Things You Should Know - If you plan to spend your gift card at a Lowe's location, you should consider speaking with the local store manager when you arrive. This will help Lowe's track how well the program is being received.

Our Thanks to Lowe's The Boy Scouts of America thanks the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation for its generous support of Scouting across the country.
