| On May 21, 2022 an Eagle Scout from Troop 148 of Temecula Valley, Collin C. was at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach and observed a drowning victim in the swimming pool. Collin took immediate action and performed a water rescue. Collin proceeded to activate emergency services and recovered an AED and applied it to the patient. Collin proceeded to perform CPR with the AED providing one shock due to an irregular heart rhythm. Huntington Beach Fire Paramedics arrived on scene and took over care of the patient. The patient was intubated and while in transport to the emergency room the patient returned to spontaneous circulation and was extubated. Upon arrival at the emergency room the patient was awake, alert and asking questions. Due to Collin being alert, knowledgeable, confident and willing to assist a life was saved. Collin credits his quick thinking to the initial skills he learned during the Life Saving Merit Badge at summer camp and Scouting. Collin went on to take more advanced training and became a certified life guard one year ago. |
